[edit] Life
He was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. His parents divorced when he was young, and in his third year of junior high school, his mother died and he and his brother were raised by his grandmother. He had made a promise to his mother to become serious about acting and soon dropped out of school to pursue his career.
Hiroki debuted in 2000 in the play “Horobikaketa jinrui, sono ai no honshitsu to wa (Perishing humankind, what is the essence of its love?)” written by Brad Fraser and starring Amon Miyamoto. Hiroki was chosen for the part of Kane from 3,000 actors who auditioned. He acted in his first movie “Oboreru sakana,” a Toei production, in February 2001. In 2002, he appeared as a student in “Gokusen,” a TV series on the Nippon Television Network which set a record for viewer ratings. With his life-sized performance in this role, Hiroki won both serious acclaim and popularity. In the same year, he played the lead role in “Okan wa uchu wo shihaisuru,” a special on the Fuji Television Network. Hiroki took on his first period film, the Toho movie “Azumi,” in 2003. The film, which became a smash hit, provided an opportunity for him to display the skillful swordplay that he had mastered through daily training. At the same time, Hiroki began to gain prominence as a young fashion leader with the announcement of a line of clothes he designed along with a number of collaboration products. His trademark “Narimiya cut” hairstyle, in particular, became a fashion rage among Japanese teens. In the fall of 2003, he appeared as a model in his Tokyo collection. 2004 found Hiroki expanding his acting talents when he took on his first lead role in the Shakespearean play “Oki ni mesumama (As You Like It),” which also starred Yukio Ninagawa. In 2005, he starred in two TV series, including his first TV drama lead in the TBS series “Ima, ai ni yukimasu.” He also featured in four films including the Toho production Nana. Also in 2005, Hiroki picked up the 29th Elan D’or Newcomer Award, which is presented to up-and-coming actors working in television and film. Besides acting, Hiroki has appeared on more than 10 covers of fashion magazines and other magazines in the last year and received the 2005 Crystallized Style Award (presented by Swarovski). He has received many inquiries to model for overseas high-fashion brands. Hiroki is now pursuing work outside Japan as both a model and an actor.
