Hiram George Berry

Hiram George Berry (1824-1863) was an American soldier. He was born in Rockland, (then a part of Thomaston) Me., and in early life served several terms in the State Legislature. At the beginning of the Civil War he joined the Union Army as colonel of the Fourth Maine Volunteers. He participated in both the first and second battles of Bull Run; was made brigadier general in 1862; and in November of the same year became major general, but was killed while leading a bayonet charge on the second day of the battle of Chancellorsville.
