Hilary Mantel

Hilary Mary Mantel OBE (born 6 July 1952) is an English novelist.

After studying law at the London School of Economics and Sheffield University, she lived in Botswana and Saudi Arabia for several years, before returning to Britain in the mid-1980s. In 1987 she was awarded the Shiva Naipaul Memorial Prize for an article about Jeddah, and she was film critic for The Spectator from 1987 to 1991.

She is the author of nine acclaimed novels, a short story collection and one memoir, and was created an Order of the British Empire (OBE) on 17 June 2006.
