[edit] iTunes rankings in soundtrack listing

I don't think that the placement of the tracks on the iTunes Top 100 should be in the article; those numbers aren't static. Already, "Breaking Free" is number two on iTunes, not "#1" as the article says. OneofThem 14:54, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

If you read just above that, it's states that it's the PEAK possition, and I saw breaking free at #1 last night (I wasn't the one that put it there, but I did verify). Although, I do agree it needs to be moved somewhere else. --Lightdarkness 16:36, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] This is such a GREAT movie!

What model is Gabriella Montez's cell phone? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.239.55.50 (talk • contribs).

Who plays Kelsey in the movie?--Dil 02:23, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Nevermind. Its some one called Olesya Rulin. And I guess in this case Kelsey is spelted Kelsi.--Dil 02:51, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Has anyone noticed that the movie hasn't gone on DVD or PSP yet? Does anyone think it should?

It is coming out on DVD in May, the information is in the article. --lightdarkness (talk) 00:42, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

The CD for HSM(High School Musical) is awesome. I love the song "I Can't Take My Eyes Off You". It's really cool. For the people that have heard it; During the part where Andrew Seeley & Vanessa anne Hudgens are singing, don't think that Monique Coleman is as well?

I really love the movie!! Everything's great, the singing, dancing...but I don't have the soundtrack. I'm living in Asia and I've travelled to many Asian countries but I still couldn't get the CD. Do u guys know when is the CD gonna be released in Asia? Or the CD is not planned to be released in Asia? Please reply..coz I really need to get the soundtrack. Thanks!

It was written by a wonderful person. And to top it off he is Jewish. This nation has lots of talent! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.158.34.114 (talkcontribs).

[edit] Troy's singing voice controversy

Just to let you all know that on some of the songs (expecially "Breaking Free") it was not Zac singing. Some one named Andrew Seeley. This tread has proof that it is not really him singing. [1]

From what I have heard, the soundtrack booklet lists Andrew Seeley as creator and a vocal for "Breaking Free" and a few other songs in the movie. I'm not 100% sure about the accuracy of that statement, but if someone who had that CD could check, it would clear up a few things.--Jonthecheet 07:07, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

It has been confirmed in a Billboard Magazine issue that Drew Seeley does in fact sing all of his songs in the movie. I have further confirmed this with Drew via email, but we can cite the Billboard article as that isn't my own personal research :-P --lightdarkness (talk) 06:43, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Should this be corrected in the article then? Under the Trivia section it credits Andrew Seeley only for Getcha Head in the Game. If it has been confirmed in Billboard I think it should be noted within the article (does someone need to find the exact source for this kind of thing?).

I think that Andrew Seeley sounds a lot like Orlando Brown. Plus, I think that Ashley Tisdale(Sharpay Evans)has a really robotic sounding voice.

^^amen to that.

[edit] Some thoughts on cleaning up

Are the release dates still necessary, since the date for the normal version's release is already noted in the infobox? (Plus, they're over already, making at least the "8 PM Eastern/7 PM Central" parts definitely unnecessary?)

Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to better sort out the "Plot" section, since the content above the spoiler warning doesn't actually give much information about the general storyline of the film? Maybe put what's currently in the summary (at the top) as the non-spoiler plot, and move the comparisons with "Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-off" elsewhere (possibly in the summary, eventually)?

Thanks, Weien 09:29, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

I think the best way to fix up that "Plot" section would be to get the exact summary from the Official website [[2]] under "About the Movie." What do you guys think?--Jonthecheet 02:56, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

We can't take it word for word, that'd be a copyright violation. --lightdarkness 03:09, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
The plot seems to have been fixed up/changed considerably already, though (e.g. the "Million Dollar Cook-off" stuff is completely gone (and I concur ^^)). The only thing now, is that the content in the "Plot" section (labeled as a spoiler) is actually a less detailed version of what's in the top summary (and, in my opinion, not even a spoiler; just info that you could pretty much gather from the Disney Channel commercials alone). But Lightdarkness is right; copying anything verbatim... would be bad ^_^. Better to either have someone who watched the movie describe it in detail (under the "Spoiler" section) or paraphrase a source's synopsis. Coming along nicely so far, though. Cheers! Weien 06:30, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

I saw the public backlash article on a website. Forgot which one but delete the public backlash comment if you want.. as a of matter of fact delete it!you did a great job on the page i don't want my comment to stain it.

[edit] Composer?

Is the actual composer of the music known?

Yes, it is a Jew called David Nessim Lawrence. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.158.34.114 (talkcontribs).

[edit] Falon Grace

Can anyone actually cite a source other people can review for this person--looks like a prank to me. 24.17.48.241 02:40, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Even if the person exists, I question why the name would need to be linked if all that can be said about them is Falon Grace appeared in [[High School Musical]]. 24.17.48.241 02:45, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] High School Musical II for 2008?

I know I'm not the only one who thinks that date is way too long for a second movie. It's bad enough The Cheetah Girls 2 were late on coming back. Disney Channel takes it's movies way too seriously. They don't need to be waiting 3 years to bring back an orginal.

Hey guys, thought I'd mention this after quite a few too many occurrences--try to keep the messages in this talk page related specifically to the building of this particular article. If you want to talk about HSM2 being a bad idea, or the quality of the lipsyncing, or how awesome or terrible the movie was, please do so at a discussion forum somewhere else.

[edit] Clean Up!

Ok, this article needs a lot of cleanup. First of all, when new info surfaces, don't place "Update:" in that paticular area, just update the info! But please cite the source. Secondly, do we really need the list of the entire crew? I don't know of another article that cites this info. If a person is really seeking this info out, they can go to imdb, I don't think the crew is encyclopedia (Save *the director and producers). Also, for High School Musical 2, don't place ANY rumors in the article. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, and we should abide by that guideline. I will try to sort these things out myself, but any help is greatly appreciate. --lightdarkness (talk) 18:09, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I have to agree that the cast listing looks very unnecessary. The four main actors/actresses are already mentioned in the "Plot" section and I believe that is all that is needed.--Jonthecheet 05:57, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
I already removed the Crew listing, I do also agree the cast needs some work, perhaps we should come up with what we are going to include? --lightdarkness (talk) 06:00, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Good job. I was just thinking that maybe the cast part should be removed. The four in the info box looks sufficient. In case someone complains about not giving proper credits, we can just add a link after the main four. Something like Complete Cast.--Jonthecheet 05:45, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey, some great progress already! ^_^ I definitely agree with the crew list being out of there; as for the character/cast list, I think we should at least have the "main" characters, who are featured at the official website (that is, characters Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Taylor, Chad, Mrs. Darbus, and Coach Bolton)--which, I think, covers all of the major (i.e. speak at least 20 lines) roles in the movie. Anyway, hoping to help with the cleanup effort here (and in the sub-pages of this article) ^^. By the way, do you guys think that the Soundtrack Notes really necessary? Weien 06:14, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

I've placed the full cast list on a subpage to cut down on the length of the article, I've placed a link in the infobox, but we can place another link in another location if someone wants. The subpage is located at High School Musical/Cast. --lightdarkness (talk) 01:26, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I started revising the Plot section; hopefully to make it more encyclopedic (e.g. taking out the "Can they do it?" type questions or phrases like "one CRAZY day," etc.) and somewhat more detailed. I've only done about two paragraphs so far, since I wanted to get all of your opinions on this before I do the entire thing. Should I keep going? Stick with the old version? Too detailed? Thanks in advance for your help! Weien 05:56, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Lookin good so far, but is there anyway to change this sentence: "Gabriella starts school at East High in Albuquerque, New Mexico, without knowing that Troy goes there as well--or that he is the captain of the East High Wildcats basketball team (of which Troy's father is the coach)." It just seems really long and awkard, or is it just me? --lightdarkness (talk) 03:04, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Weien, looks great. --lightdarkness (talk) 06:01, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I didn't even get to reply XD (I edited it, then took a look at your userpage, then at your barnstars, and then at Firefox.ogg, etc... before getting back here ^^)! But you were right on about that sentence... it's still not perfect, so if you have any ideas, feel free to change it or any of the others. There might be a way to insert the tidbit about Troy's dad being the coach later on, but I guess for now it works where it is ^^. Thanks for your help! Weien 06:22, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Things are looking real good everyone, is there anything else we can trim up? --lightdarkness (talk) 20:55, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Hm... well, I think it could be nice if we could get the summary at the top to look less like an advertising blurb and more, say, like the one in this article XD. Another thing might be cleaning up the soundtrack section, but I think that could wait until the actual soundtrack article itself has been tidied up, first. But yes, good work all! ^_^, Weien 01:47, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, the paragraphs that you didn't copyedit, which would be (in the plot) all but the first two, need major cleaning up. It reads like a TV annoucer would for a commercial. I really don't think the plot should be asking questions. Anyone wanna give that a whack? --lightdarkness (talk) 02:02, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
*raises hand* I'd been planning to keep going anyway, if no one jumps in in the meantime ^^. But yes, hopefully I can get it done a bit at a time (the weekdays are tough for me), though after the first two paragraphs, most of the content there isn't even a description of the plot anymore (whereas for the first two I was able to mostly stick with what the original user was writing). At any rate, anyone please feel free to work on the plot as well! ^^ Weien 05:27, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No sequal til 08'

Per this, President of Disney Channel Worldwide stated that it won't be ready til 08, I've updated the article and High School Musical 2 to refect this info. --lightdarkness (talk) 06:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of HSM possible date

After a disscussion with an admin, I've removed the speculation date of the sequal to High School Musical. Even though I've cited sources claiming it to be 2008, I think it's going to become an edit war of devout fans editing in this magic January 17th date that is being vigorously spread via online forums. Regardless of all of that, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, and we should abide to past precident. --lightdarkness (talk) 03:43, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Screencaps from the movie

I captured the movie via my capture card during the last airing, so I can now get screencaps for the article. I've already added one, but I can't really find other ones that would fit well. If anyone wants a paticular screencap for the article, let me know and I'll upload it for you. --lightdarkness (talk) 05:54, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Great cap--it's a good snapshot of a key moment in the movie ^^. Once I get more work done on the plot (sorry that I haven't made progress lately--really busy in RL over here -_-), there might be more places where another screencap or two would fit nicely (at this rate, the plot section will be pretty big in its finished form, so having a few pics throughout ought to be aesthetically okay)... otherwise, the only thing I can think of would be possibly having a picture illustrating "Breaking Free" in the Soundtrack section, but that'd just be for fun, I think ^^. Weien 06:20, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Todd Michael Schwartzman: Superstar

I haven't actually seen this movie, but one of my current floormates in my college dorm, Todd Schwartzman, is in some form of part for it. It's probably not very major at all (actual lines are doubtful), but still, it's cool. Plus, I think he's been in other Disney Channel movies (also as a background man) and he has recorded music for small cd's (usually religious). Just wanted to share.

--Commander Cool, part deux 08:56, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] APENDIX A (to my previous comment)

Well, this article got me thinking, and so I checked out IMDB. Sure enough, our friend Todd's got himself an article, found here: [[3]]. Just to prove he's real.

Apparently, he's also Pete the Werewolf in Halloweentown.

And yes, the post from bhurst2 is from me.

--Commander Cool, part deux 09:07, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

You Haven't! Oh my gosh!

[edit] Release Date

Is it really necessary to have the release date on the page and on the right side too? One shouldn't be there then. Should I get rid of one? If so, which one? -Rosepuff12 02:34, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, the one is apart of the infobox, and the one in the article kinda describes how they had multiple versions. It's up to you, I have no preference. --lightdarkness (talk) 02:51, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Itunes MOvie

should we mention that the movie is not sold on iTunes anymore? Cnriaczoy42 13:48, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Clean-up

Issues include English style and tone (it reads like a fanzine piece) and Wikipedia style (headings, etc.) --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:45, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

I have watched the movie several times and am a good proof reader. I will look at it as well. ShannonKay 01:01, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

I have been making some copy-editing type changes with several of the sections. I hope this improves the English style and tone, but I am relatively new to wikipedia style. Are these the types of changes wanted? ShannonKay 04:04, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Your changes were mostly improvements, yes — thanks. You might want to look at some of the links in the Welcome notice on your User Talk page for information about Wikipedia style for headings, dates, etc. In general, slang terms should be avoided, and there are various preferences that you'll learn about as you go along (for example, the naming conventions prefer the use of "film" to "movie", and it's best to keep that consistent throughoutarticles).
Welcome to Wikipedia, and happy editing! --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:22, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Mel- Why delete the iTunes section? The movie was a landmark in iTunes history, making it the first movie available legally for the iPod.Judxapp 13:31, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

It looked like nothing more than an advert, with pricing, etc. A mention of the fact that you give above would be OK, but not the whole section that was there. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:15, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I agree. A clean-up should be in approval. Although it should only be the bottom. The biography is agreeble. .Allenk893 13:22, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

WELL, I was just looking at the site for some information and noticed that some MORON went through and completely changed the names to everything with cuss words! It was completely uncalled for, even if they did not like the movie. Children read this stuff and they do not need to read that. I went through and changed it back to its original words...

[edit] Jewish decent

Zac Efron is Jewish. Ashley Tisdale is of Jewish decent. David Nessim Lawrence is Jewish. How many more? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.158.34.114 (talkcontribs).

[edit] Gabriella in Breaking Free

did anyone notice her clothes change from the science lab coat to normal clothing in the middle of the song? should this be noted? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.158.34.114 (talkcontribs).

If you watch closely in the scene before, when Zac is singing, you can see her go off the scene, taking the coat off.

[edit] Zac Efron/Andrew Seeley

I've been wondering... Why did this Andrew guy voiceover some of Zac's songs when Zac is such an amazing singer, and has been doing so since he was like 10? Tates 03:38, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Because Zac could not hit those high notes like Andrew Seeley can. Zac has a lower voice range and the songs called for a higher range.

oh ok, thank you Tates 18:27, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
