[edit] Biased parts of article

LOL i like the sarcastic introduction of this article =D

The intro should be written in a more encyclopedic tone, as well as Troy's bio.

[edit] Sports and Drama

From my High School experience, it is very hard, if not impossible to play a time intensive sport such as basketball and be in a musical at the same time. This is especially true if it is a championship sports team. A sports coach wants a players total commitment to that sport, so the concept beheind this movie is impractical. This should maybe be mentioned in the article.

This is an opinion. Not fact. So it doesn't belong on Wikipedia. -Sukecchi 01:19, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
If someone spends 2-3 hours a day practicing basketball, 5-7 days a week, when do they have time to be in a play. When that much time is put in, commitment is required, else they will not be on the team for very long. I'll look for specific articles later, but trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Basketball is a very time intensive sport that a player has to commit to.
It doesn't matter. It is an OPINION that they're difficult to do together. Someone's opinion is not encyclopedic so it does not belong in the article. -Sukecchi 11:31, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
For God's sake! It's not a documentary about basketball, it's fictional light entertainment! I'm now going to rewrite the articles for the Alien movies, criticising them to reflect the fact that the existence of extra-terrestrial is unproven, and for every other film that's based on a fictional or unproven premise...Martan 15:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Neutrality

I think that much of the article favors the movie, and therefore, it should be rewritten in a more neutral voice. Parts like the character descriptions, as well as the plot should really be looked at closely. The Remix Edition (see below) also has this problem. BTW, I'm sorry about vandalsism crap. It was late and I was really bored.

The Remix Edition section has a very unecyclopedic voice, as well as sensationalsim (Trying to sell a product).

There is already a sub-topic regarding the Remix edition. We should delete the remix edition post below.

[edit] Concert Band version

There is a song entitled "Highlights of High school Musical" written by someone. It consists of Breaking Free, The start of something new and We're all in this together in that order.

[edit] Is it an error?

There have been a few views on when the science girls close the laptop twice - is it an error or not? I think it isn't, as it is a different purpose. On an offhand note, does anyone agree with me with the whole Ashley Tisdale Tribute to Brenda Song on the Suite life of Zack and cody? You know, when she does the handclapping?

It seemed like an error to me. But where have you seen "a few views" on the scene; can you link us to any such talk? - Matthew238 00:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What about a new section?

Shouldn't we add a section mentioning the critical reaction and response the movie has garnered, both positive and negative? I think that is a great Idea. Id work on it, but Im not sure

[edit] This doesn't sound hidden

Talk:High School Musical
If you watch until the very end of High School Musical, after the credits, you can see a hidden scene in which Sharpay finds out how good the cookies Zeke made her tasted and runs up to him and hugs him with much enthusiasm, saying she loves him. This may have something to do with High School Musical 2.

Talk:High School Musical

To me that really doesn't sound hidden. Lots of movies have a strange sence at the end like that. Bawolff 22:52, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

well what are you supposed to call that then?--Jak 21:50, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
an epilogue?--Martan 21:36, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ends like that, with Lockheart moving in a book, and everyone ignoring him, but the prisoner of Azkaban doesn't mention Lockheart.--egandude123 23:23, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Highest Selling DCOM soundtrack?

  • Somebody said that the HSM soundtrack was the highest selling soundtrack but I've also heard that it was The Cheetah Girls soundtrack. Can someone tell me more about this?

High School Musical sold more than the Cheetah Girls

[edit] Spanish song in the movie

  • I think they should add something about the spanish song in the soundtrack that was actually a near translation of the song "What I've been looking for" that is titled "Eres tú" by "Belanova".

[edit] So many grammatical errors!

It needs clean-up. Also, the trivia section is really messed up. -leaves to edit-

|vent|rant|rave|bitch| 23:32, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

I clenaed it up a lot and fixed most of the grammar errors in the plot. -Rosepuff12 20:46, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I came here after seeing a note on Wikipedia:cleanup and reverted the change of an apostrophe here. Apostrophes after the s signify that the noun is possessive to more than one person (or at least that's what I recall learning in school so many years ago. :) ) I just wanted to clarify that here. Cowman109Talk 05:28, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fixing Up (202.154.148.122)

Okay, The Plot Spoiler in the article is far more comprehensive and makes far more sense. No more 'Will Troy and Gabriella yada yada be able to do it?' sort of lines.

Removed the comments about removed images. They can always be recovered from previous edits.

Fixed many grammatical errors, and rearranged some text.

Fixed the 'Errors' section at the bottom, to remove the comments that someone so kindly put there.

get over the spelling and grammar

[edit] Plot

Actually, looking at the article, while the storyline is greatly improved (far better than previous edit) it still needs shortening.

Also, the character section needs cleanup (This is listed as a comment in the page source)

Please note also, the notice about condensing the plot collides with the frame containing the movie information.

I removed a good bit from the plot section to help clean up, but it's still too long. I didn't get to the last 3-4 paragraphs though. I'll work on the characters though. Judxapp 02:59, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Fireworks

Can someone confirm whether the fireworks would not have been allowed to fire due to snow (and cite a source, like a legislation or something) and whether the other (commented out) errors should just be removed?

I think that it is supposed to be romantic so ...let it be ---- hsmfan

[edit] Why Illegal Immigrants Comment was deleted?

I added in a comment noting that some critics(me as well as some others) of the movie have said that Sharpay's hostility towards Gabriella resembled that of some US citizens towards illegal immigrants. Later I come back, it's not there anymore. I don't understand why someone removed it. The comment wasn't offensive or anything. If anything, it is very relevant when you think about the supposed themes to the movie. M paulinus

What hostility? If your talking about Sharpay being mad at Gabriella like shown during 'Stick to the Status Quo', that's different. Sharpay was mad at her because she thought that herself and Ryan would be the only ones to be auditioning for the leads. She was shocked when she saw the callbacks so that is what got her mad and jealous at Gabriella. -Rosepuff12 15:26, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
We all know that Sharypay wasn't the nicest person in the movie. In fact, when she met Gabriella. she was somewhat patronizing. When she found out about the callbacks, she was furious. You could say that she was threatened to an extent. She even felt the need to sabotage their chances by convincing Darvis to change the times of the callbacks. The comparison I made was that Sharpay's feelings toward Gabriella resembled that of some American citizens towards Illegal Immigrants.

M paulinus 23:53, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

First of all, it's Darbus, not Darvis, and of course you could make this comparison. However this relation as a theme is probably quite by accident, coincidence if you will, and not the writers intention to express the American feeling towards Illegal Immigrants.
Do not forget this movie is seen internationally (as is this article I might add) and while the movie is an American creation, perhaps such American specific comments are best left out of the article
Rpgsimmaster 03:30, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I guess. Though, I still think the comparison should be mentioned. Though, I would like to point out the 'coincidence' that Gabriella was Hispanic. --M paulinus 00:05, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

You mention that "Some critics" have felt this is also the case. If you can find a verefiable and respectable online source that says this and then cite it, it can be added to the article. Untill then, however, it sounds very much like original research and POV. Cheers! --omtay38 01:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Isn't Vanessa Ann Hudgens half-Filipino, though?

72.234.141.183 05:09, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I may be new here, but isnt that normal bulliying? This sorta stuff happens in Lizzie Mguire, That's so Raven, and such. So, I dont think it's a valid argument.

Then again, feel free to disagree. I love a good argument!

If someone could put that comparison in, then everyone should be allowed to add their own little theories and observations.

[edit] Article getting tidied

Well I've been doing some (merciless) editing to keep the article tidy, but I've been amassing comments in the source. Would anyone care to comment on them in this talk page, because anything that's commented I'm likely to remove soon. Things like the fireworks and the wristwatch really need to be confirmed as errors, the grammatical correction in the Chad Danforth section of the article and so forth need to be dealt with.

Thanks to anyone who will do this. Rpgsimmaster 03:33, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Zeke

In the minor characters section, is Zeke worth developing as a character (such as mentioning his crush on Sharpay) or is his character not significant enough to merit keeping?

Comments or ideas, please. Rpgsimmaster 07:25, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Hmm...well, we shouldn't move him into the main characters section. However, there is a bit more to say about him. I'll let more experienced users handle this one.

--Dunga - Fugemeister - Sayan 12:34, 12 September 2006 (UTC) Do the wave!

[edit] Addition to comments under Taylor McKessie and Chad Danforth

The comments under Taylor McKessie and Chad Danforth about Chad asking Taylor out needs to be developed or removed. At this stage I commented it, but I think it could be developed well.

[edit] Cleanup

The article needs a lot of cleanup. Sections are too large, unessisary, and not up to Wikipedia's standards. Please don't remove the notice until the article has drasticly been improved. --lightdarkness (talk) 18:37, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I have cleaned up and removed unnecessary details from the plot section and will be working on the characters section next. Please comment if more cleanup is needed. Mirrorblade 11:27, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Use of Jerseys

We have decided before that the multiple jerseys is not a problem. Someone edited this previously who was a basketball player, and commented that they too had multiple jerseys. It is probably not uncommon, and therefore probably not a continuity error in the film.

Before you add it again, please discuss why here.

Rpgsimmaster 06:22, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Image

I changed the picture in the infobox because the picture that was in there was a false DVD cover. The new image is a promotional image for the movie. Jtervin 05:50, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fandom

Fandom or fansites has no place in an encyclopedia article. They bring nothing to the article nor are helpful in any way. This is simple advertising and way to get around the provision in the External Links section.--Klaser 14:57, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cast Pages

There are multiple articles on the cast. When I open an article, such as Troy Bolton, the article is only a stub with minor info about him. I say that we place redirects on all of the pages, and we just add the info we want on the main article.--Edtalk c E 17:37, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Some Wikipedians know little about the cast and are just creating stubs about the minor cast, However some vetrans like Vanessa Ann Hudgens or Ashley Tisdale have lots of fans who know a lot about them, which is why they have long pages. Nitweet 13:58, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Not those!! I meant pages like Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez. They are just stubs, whose summaries are already placed in this article.--Edtalk c E 14:00, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Oops sorry about the misreading of information. As for the pages, they're being considered for deletion... Found this at the cast pages of Troy and Gabriella: deletion policy.
Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page.
Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed. For more information, particularly on merging or moving the article during the discussion, read the guide to deletion. Nitweet 04:01, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Plot Headings

I added headings to the plot so that we can organize the plot better, and clean it up one at a time. Feel free to change the names at any time.--Edtalk c E 17:44, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Continuity Error?

Talk:High School Musical
Although the callback songs only have a supporting piano, "Breaking Free" had a Drum set and Latin percussion instruments like the Timbales, Conga and the Agogo bells were heard in "Bop to the top".
Talk:High School Musical

While the first part of this may be correct - "Breaking Free" arguably should only have a supporting piano, I disagree that "Bop to the top" having this accompaniement is an error. In the first set of auditions, Ryan states that the rehearsal pianist did an arrangement for them - it is not a stretch to believe that this would be the case in the callbacks as well. Further, the argument could be made that "Breaking Free" having additional accompaniement is not an error either, since it is clearly a song which is part of the movie as a musical overall - and thus to argue that the additional instruments is an error would be akin to arguing that about every single song in the movie (Status quo, etc.).

Thoughts? --1of42 01:24, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, although it started with a piano, it woulndt be much of a good movie if that was all. Troy and GAbriella belivee that there IS no piano. That is just to make the song better to us. --Dunga - Fugemeister - Sayan 13:36, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Talk:High School Musical
In Stick to the Status Quo, it is supposed to take place during lunch, but pretty much everybody actually eat during lunch, and there is no food on the table. There are also no teachers in the cafeteria, or in the hallway during When There Was Me and You.
Talk:High School Musical

This one is almost the same as the above sentance, and is definitely not an error. Nitweet 08:22, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

guys It's a movie. and I know for a fact at MY school you can walk the halls with out seeing a teacher.

[edit] Teen Choice Awards

HSM won the "Best Comedy/Musical" category. Not much else to say but that.

I think someone who is familiar with the Wikipedia should add a chart for the awards like the one for The Daily Show. It would greatly improve the quality of the awards section.--74.106.70.54 16:10, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Errors

A lot of these errors seem to only be nin-picking and not really errors. As far as I can see, the only one that's an error is the thing about Troy's shoes. I propose a clean up -Sukecchi 19:27, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

I agree--Tishii 22:56, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree too, And I will do something about itNitweet 08:36, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't agree - a lot of them are actual errors - I'm thinking of some...but some of them aren't. The Recieving instead of Receiving one may be small, but it is an error. Even though these are small, a lot of people like seeing this stuff, and seeing the error for themself. Though that's irrelevent. Dunga - Fugemeister - Sayan 13:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] High School Musical Poster

That kid who posted that poster of high school musical is fake. he got it off of the free wallpaper downloads on the website and cut it. I would take it down and replace it back to the dvd version but I'm not sure if everyone feels that way. Thanks Allenk893 12:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually no, I didn't get it off free wallpaper downloads that is the movie poster just a cut down version. I couldn't find the full length version so shutup b***h. Haha. Jtervin 00:49, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Language guys! I'm thinking that Allenk893 may be right. It seems kinda fakish. bobbymoo159 11:26, 11 September 2006 (EST)

That's what I'm saying. You cut off- either version anyway. The picture that was up was good before you messed it up. I'm not gonna curse at you because I'm not 13 anymore, but you need to have some respect about everyone's choices. That's all I want to say. I'm gonna let somebody else change it if they want. P.S> If you had the movie poster, why didn't you post the WHOLE thing? Allenk893 7:36, 13 September 2006 (EST)

[edit] IMDB

IMDB states that Zac Efron has a singing backup. Does this mean he can't sing?

No, he can sing, it's just that Troy's part was written for a tenor and not for a baritone. So they had to get someone else to sing the high notes that Zac Efron couldn't sing. Mirrorblade 10:25, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comment?

There's a comment at the top of HSM's artical, it should be removed.

[edit] Theatre Verson

There is a theatre version of the show that will premiere in Atlanta - January 13 - 27, 2007. [1]

There will also be an Asian stage adaptation of High School Musical on February 2007 in Manila, Philippines. [2] [3] DragonRoar 12:29, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NPOV?

I have removed the {{POV}} tag from this article. There has been no discussion of POV issues on this talk page, and I personally don't see an NPOV problem in this article's current version. Is this about the unsourced, unencyclopedic "Criticism" section that's not in the article as of now? On the other hand, I know little about this subject, so there could be something I'm missing. Feel free to re-add the tag if you feel there are POV problems, and if you discuss them on this talk page. szyslak (t, c, e) 21:18, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Criticisms

I moved the following text from the main page, it will need some kind of citation to a verifiable source if anyone can actually provide one, the last part certainly sounds like original research to me

"Although not significant in the US, several people around the world complained of the behavior of the main male characters. Although not sexually misoriented, they presented several female behaviors, such as playing Basketball instead of Rugby or Football, or being interested in musicals instead of Rock bands. This complaints could have been avoided if more sexually secure male characters were included in the film, even if they were antagonists, like a football team that mocks the basketball team, or replacing basketball for rugby as the main sport in the film." --Amxitsa 16:06, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

This passage is pure original research. Since when was basketball a "female" sport? Boys who play basketball are sexually "insecure"? And why does it even matter whether what the men do is stereotypically "male" or "female"? The text should not be re-added under any circumstances. szyslak (t, c, e) 08:57, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
What the? Needless to say, this should not be re-added under any circumstances. Rebecca 10:03, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minor Errors Needing Fixed

Um, the 'gay' comments regarding Ryan need to be deleted. They're clearly a stupid prank.

Also, Martha Cox's description is in desperate need of grammatical reworking. I have no idea what the author was intending to say, so I can't fix it myself.

Ok, the gay comments about Ryan have been fixed. Wow, that was quick (like 10 minutes).

[edit] Errors

I can't find the error, so... you have to think about it! On left column, in the "other languages" box, Portuguese and Thai (Tiong Viet?) are repeated twice. Correct, please! 213.45.193.92 08:09, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia

From the article..........

When doing takes of the 'interupted' kiss between Troy and Gabriella, Chad (Corbin Bleu) accidently on purpose missed his cue so Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens ended up kissing.

(citations is/are needed, if there are videos, link them, these videos must be from an official Disney Channel website, not from Google Videos or YouTube)

Please respond on my talk page.

- Emir214 13:47, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POV tags

Occasionally a drive-by anon user will add dispute tags to this article without giving any more than general complaints, if even that. Could whoever disputes this article's neutrality, original research status, etc. please point to specific passages and terms they dispute? I see no more than general statements like "it favors the movie too much". Statements like that amount to little more than "I don't like this article", or possibly "I don't like the movie, and I want the article to reflect that". Please be more specific. szyslak (t, c, e) 02:41, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Release Dates

That section seems to be getting a bit large...and I got to thinking...is it really necessicary? I really don't see a need to list every single time the movie premiered in a different country...it doesn't offer anything encyclopedia-worthy...anyone else have anything to say about it? -Sukecchi 19:30, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

I would really like some feedback on this. -Sukecchi 01:14, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I think it is important for release dates to be shown as people can compare their country's release date to those of others

Sure, certain release dates, not every single release date for every region. It's not important. -Sukecchi 00:16, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minor Edits

I only took out a few things becuase I found them ruining the grammar of the article. For instance, in Troy Bolton's bio, someone put 'Troy Bolton (Zac Efron, who is sooooo hot)' and I didn't find that very relative to the rest of the bio.

The "sooooo hot" part was, as I have been saying when I remove it, fandalism: fan vandalism. So of course t wasn't relevant XD -Sukecchi 19:17, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I know. I don't understand why people do that. And I like that word, fandalisim. xP

[edit] Error: Basketball score

It is mentioned that the clock messes up at 7:58, and the score is 8-8, and states that the game is split into 4 8-minute quarters. But don't these things change from area to area, because in my school the game is split into two 20-minute halves, where such a score display would be somewhat appropriate.

68.150.86.20 04:08, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what happens at your school. This is not your school, it is a movie. To compare something like a movie to reality is pointless. Just like the "Sports and Drama" on the top of this page. -Sukecchi 13:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Goofs

I think the Goofs section should probably be removed. It is just a very short version of what is available on IMDb. If we are going to add some from the IMDb list, I suggest it be goofs regarding Factual errors or Errors in geography, not the all to common, and less interesting, Continuity errors. - Matthew238 04:59, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

By goofs do you mean errors? If you mean the Errors section I'm all for it, I'm getting tired of removing the same things over and over again. >_< -Sukecchi 12:55, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
I think it is now titled Continuity Errors. For the IMDb page that it is mostly taken from, see Goofs for High School Musical. "Errors" is also mentioned above by someone. My point is, if we are going to copy parts from IMDb, then the ones they list as Factual errors or Errors in geography seem more interesting, if we use any at all. - Matthew238 00:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia

After the pop up version is shown, should we put a trivia section for the facts that will appear in the Pop up version ?

[edit] Score

Before the Wildcats' score goes up to 68, the score is 66-67. When they score, it goes up to 68-67. So where did the extra point come from? Littleghostboo[ boo! ] 06:24, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Uh, I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but points in Basketball is either 2 or 3. No 1's on the score. One of the reasons that they had such a high score.

[edit] Reversion: East High

Who keeps reverting my contribution on the Trivia? Please give me a reason why you should delete it when it contains true information? --AOL Alex 18:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unverified / Original notice on the Characters section

Can whoever added this specify the exact portions needing citation or take the notice down? I skimmed it, and it is not obvious to me what is being referenced as unverified or original. Saladpope 04:59, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

One or more anon users has been adding dispute tags here and there without explanation. I think whoever has been adding the tags either misunderstands WP:NOR and WP:V, or has their own strong views on how this article should be. This article is a magnet for one-shot drive-by editors whose only concern is how much they like or don't like the movie, and how much the article reflects how they feel. szyslak (t, c, e) 10:31, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Pulled it down. If whoever put it up originally had a real reason, feel free to replace, but please add specific refs here or citation tags to article text.Saladpope 23:47, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Just regarding the section in general, it definitely needs a quality cleanup. Has anybody read it? Graphitesmoothie 20:59, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia Section

The trivia section is Way too big. Most of the facts are from High School Musical Pop-Up Edition. Even though the facts are true about the movie, the section is still too big. Should we delete most of the facts put on there? -Rosepuff12 16:37, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree and will comply right now. A lot of stuff in there is poory written...and looks like it's directly from the pop-ups. We don't need to know a lot of this stuff. >_> -Sukecchi 17:32, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Most Successful DCOM?

Some say The Cheetah Girls 2 is the most successful but others say High School Musical is. Which is it? I thought Cheetah Girls 2 topped it.72.94.46.100 00:38, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

In terms of ratings, CG2 got higher in the US. But with album and DVD sales, especially internationally, (for example, in the UK HSM got 800,000 viewers but CG2 got about 200,000) HSM would be more successful. --Bearbear 16:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Well, didn't the soundtrack to the 1st Cheetah Girls go Multi Platinum, and the soundtrack to the second Cheetah Girls go Platinum? And I read the DVD of the first Cheetah Girls sold over a million copies.72.94.46.100 17:19, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

HSM went multi platnm and I predict HSM 2 will do just as good if not better

[edit] Rewriting of Characters section

I have rewritten it, using a lot of the content from the old one, but just taking out the unnecessary stuff. If you have any problems with it, feel free to say it here. Thanks. :P Graphitesmoothie 21:20, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
