High Shincliffe

High Shincliffe is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated a few miles south-east of Durham, close to the village of Bowburn. It was formerly known as Bank Top, and boasts a small but well regarded primary school as well as a local pub. The centre circle of the school's football pitch marks the spot where the old Bank Top coal mine shaft once stood. The village is surrounded by fields,which are a quite a popular route for local dog walkers. A dissused railway runs along one end of the village which extends to Newcastle upon Tyne.
