High School tram stop
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
High School tram stop is a tram stop serving Nottingham High School and Nottingham High School for Girls in Nottingham, England. It is located on Waverley Street on the main route of the Nottingham Express Transit. This section of the route is shared with road users.
High School tram stop is situated 2.27 km from the southern terminus at Station Street, 9.99 km from the northern terminus of Hucknall and 5.38 km from Phoenix Park. A journey to Station Street takes approximately 9 minutes, to Hucknall approximately 21 minutes and to Phoenix Park approximately 15 minutes.
Service frequency Monday-Friday is every 5 minutes during the morning and evening peak, every 6 minutes during the daytime and every 10 minutes in the early morning and during the evening. Services alternate in destination between Hucknall and Phoenix Park. On Saturdays, trams operate every 5 minutes during the daytime, which increased from the previous frequency of every 6 minutes from 21 October 2005. Evening frequency is the same as during the week. Service intensity is reduced on Sundays, with services every 7-8 minutes in the daytime (increased from every 10 minutes) and every 15 minutes in the early morning and evening.
Although announced on the tram itself as being called High School, one must note that until the addition of tourist information to accompany the announcement of stops, it was called by its correct name, The High School. Many pupils at the school have complained about this; to call it High School implies a stage of education, one typically attended between the ages of 12 and 18. Although quite true, the establishment is called The High School, something slightly different, in this instance an independent, selective, fee-paying boys day school.
Interestingly, the Nottingham High School had to sell a sliver of land to Nottingham Express Transit for the stop to be constructed. The stop is announced as being for the Arboretum, but to all intent and purposes, the most frequent users of the stop are those boys who attend the school who live either in West Bridgford or within striking distance of Junction 26 of the M1 or Hucknall.
