Hibernophile

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Hibernophile is someone who is regarded as a lover of Ireland and all things Irish. It uses the Latin name for Ireland, Hibernia.

In contrast, a Hibernophobe is someone with an irrational hatred of all things Irish and to do with Ireland.

Hibernophilia is common in countries with a high population of people with Irish ancestry, particularly the USA. St. Patrick's Day is perhaps the strongest example of Hibernophilia, with people celebrating Irishness, whether they are of Irish descent or not.
