Hi-Point Firearms, also knows as Beemiller (Distributed by MKS Supply), is a firearms manufacturer based in Dayton, Ohio. They manufacture low-cost pistols and Carbines, in the following calibers:
- 380ACP Pistols (Models CF-380 and 380 Comp)
- 9mm Luger Pistols (Models C9 and C9 Comp)
- 9mm Luger Carbines (Hi-Point 995 Carbine)
- .40 S&W Pistols (Model 40 SW/Poly)
- .40 S&W Carbines (Model 4095 Carbine)
- .45ACP Pistols ([Model .45 ACP])
- .45ACP Carbine (Design completed, scheduled to be released within the next year)
Hi-Point semi-automatic pistols are regarded as simple, inexpensive handguns, which trade-off aesthetics for lower manufacturing cost. The drawback of the blowback design, is that the greater mass required for proper function, requires larger slides, resulting in a somewhat heavier gun, which is visually less appealing than some designs. Hi-Point products generally retail for 1/2 to 1/4 the cost of a comparably chambered gun from most other manufacturers. Compared to other U.S. produced semi-automatic pistols in the same price range, Hi-Points are generally more durable and reliable.
Pistols manufactured by Hi-Point have a polymer frame. The slide is die cast from a zinc alloy known as Zamac 3, rather than machined from forged steel. They operate using a simple straight blowback action. Uncommon for this construction, they are rated for +P+ ammunition in calibers up to .45 ACP. Blowback designs are generally simpler and easier to produce than locked-breech recoil action firearms. Though the fixed barrel generally will contribute to improved accuracy, direct blowback firearms sometimes have a greater level of felt recoil, and often are larger and heavier for a given caliber.
Hi-Point carbines use a polymer stock, stamped sheet metal receiver cover, and a reviever and bolt cast from Zamac 3. The barrel is steel and button rifled using a 1-10" right hand twist. They are also blowback action, which is very well suited to a low-pressure carbine. Magazines will exchange between Hi-Point pistols and carbines of the same caliber. The carbines have a better overall reputation than Hi-Point's pistol line, and are fairly popular with budget-minded firearms enthusiasts.
Hi-Point firearms are deployed as service weapons with some law enforcement agencies, although they occupy a small share of this particular market in comparison to other manufacturers. As of this writing, information on which or how many agencies issue Hi-Points as a service weapon is unverified; as well as which types and overall numbers of firearms are issued in this role.
[edit] Magazines
The Magazines are metal, with plastic bases. They are generally available in 8 to 10 round capacities for pistols and 10 rounds for the 9mm carbine.
- The .40 S&W and .45ACP magazines are interchangeable between each other and the .40 S&W Carbine.
- A .45 ACP version of the Hi-point carbine has been designed, but is pending release until orders for the .40 S&W, and 9mm versions have been met. The magazines will interchange between the carbine and the pistol.
[edit] Warranty
All Hi-Points come with a lifetime no-questions asked warranty. Whether you are the original purchaser, or a 100th owner, your Hi-Point firearm will be repaired free of charge.
The accompanying paperwork with some handguns and carbines is outdated, and states that only the original purchaser will be covered by the lifetime warranty. This is no longer the case. As stated on their website, and by customer service at the number below, the "No-Questions Asked" warranty covers the gun forever, under any and all circumstances.
- Warranty number: 877-425-4867
