Hi-5, originally an Australian children's television program, was first shown on the Nine Network in 1999. Five, a UK broadcast network, rebroadcasts the Australian version. In 2003 an American version of the program began broadcasting in the United States. Hi-5 is now shown in 83 countries.

[edit] Origins of the program

In 1998, Producer Helena Harris, creator of Bananas in Pajamas, created "Hi-5" when her two children outgrew 'Bananas'. She and co-producer Posie Graeme-Evans decided the new show would be aimed at 2-8 year-olds, would include educational trends as fun and games, and would feature music and movement that would attract children's attention. Hi-5 aims to cater to a wide range of young children with a wide range of cognitive abilities and learning styles.

Child-development experts work with writers on every script. Each show is built around a simple theme like colours, music, animals, or numbers. Each show is then divided into segments that teach the concept different ways. Music is seen as the method of joining the segments of the program together as well as highlighting the concepts and themes of each program.

The auditions for the Australian hosts were held in June 1998 and the first program was broadcast in January 1999. Since then, the original Australian show won three ARIA awards for "Best Children's Album" (in 2000, 2001 and 2004), won three consecutive Australian Logie Awards (the Australian equivalent of the Emmys) for "Most Outstanding Children's Preschool Program" in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

In every series theres 9 songs.This 9 Songs appear in each week .Each week there is 5 epsiode and each series there is 45 episodes except series 6. Hi-5 are now already success airing 340 episodes and 45 more episodes will be air next year.

[edit] Segments of the program Also Hi-5

The show features five different segments hosted by a different presenter.

Nathan Foley presents a segment exploring shape, colour and pattern using all kinds of materials such as coloured boxes and play-dough;

Kathleen de Leon Jones presents a segment on logical thinking and mathematics looking at numbers, puzzles and mazes - this segment also features Jup-Jup.

Tim Harding hosts the musical section looking at concepts such as beat, rhythm, pitch and melody

Kellie Hoggart (formerly a member of Australian pop group Teen Queens) hosts the section looking at language and sounds with the help of Chatterbox (also in US version). (Recently, before the Kellie segment of the show, Chatterbox would sing a song about looking for a friend to play with. Jup Jup appears in this song too, making Chats the only character to have actually noticed Jup Jup for real).

Charli Delaney hosts the section trying to develop body co-ordination skills through hopping, jumping and stepping;

There is also a social skills segment where all five presenters join together to present a story.
