Some clarification may be useful concerning the various forms of the word Heuriger:

  • Heuriger is the nominative case when the word is used without an article (as for example in a dictionary entry) or with an indefinite article. Thus, ein Heuriger is "a Heuriger".
  • Used with a definite article or a demonstrative pronoun, the word becomes der Heurige ("the Heuriger") or dieser Heurige ("this Heuriger").
  • According to the rules of declension, most other singular and plural forms of Heuriger read Heurigen, for example bei einem anderen Heurigen "at a different Heuriger".
  • Like with words from other languages (cf. Latin medium versus plural media), I suggest in an English language context we only use two forms: Heuriger (singular) and Heurigen (plural).

I have adapted the spelling in the article accordingly. Any comments? <KF> 01:46, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
