Heterostraci (Heterostracans) are an extinct marine taxon of vertebrate. They are a subgroup of the Pteraspidomorphi and in the taxon Agnatha (Ostracoderms). Examples are Doryaspis, Protaspis (Cosmaspis) and Allocryptaspis sandbergi. The Taxon is only known from Silurian and Devonian sediments. Remarkable is their hypocercal tail.
