[edit] Stuff related to OrgDev, organization of Wikipedia, whatever.
Some questions for consideration...
- What role do userpages play in the organization? What role do they REALLY play?
- Can that change? Should it? Can change be prevented? Should it?
- What role SHOULD userpages play in the organization? Is it possible to answer that question with any certainty?
- What do published expertes in OrgDev have to say that would bear on these questions?
- Is there any research or previous experience of other organizations that might bear on these questions?
- Can OrgDev even be applied to a Wiki environment? Would it best to shelve this project and let things work out? Is the idea of this project improperly elitist?
- What other questions need to be asked?
Update: In the policy discussion, there is some discussion of the interaction between userboxes and user categories (as categories are often attached to the userboxes). Therefore, the same questions could usefully be asked about user categories, although for now that is a bit out of scope.
