Herron School of Art and Design is a school within Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis or simply, IUPUI. Herron is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and the Teacher Training Licensing Commission of the Indiana State Board of Education.
Herron offers education opportunities for visual arts careers in painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, photography, sculpture, visual communication design, art education, furniture design, and art history.
Students can earn the following degrees: Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Art Education, and Master of Art Education. In addition, a Master of Fine Arts program in visual communication design will be available in the fall of 2007.
In 2005, the school moved into a new building on the IUPUI campus: Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hall. This 169,000 square foot facility tripled the amount of space available to Herron students and includes a 5,500-square-foot library, a 240-seat auditorium, 4,200-square-feet of gallery space, and several computer labs.
The first phase of Herron's new facilities, the Sculpture and Ceramics building, was completed and opened for classes in January 2000.
