Herod Philip

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Herod Philip (4 BCAD 34), or Philip the tetrarch, was son of Herod the Great and his fifth wife Cleopatra of Jerusalem and half-brother of Herod Antipas and Herod Archelaus.

Philip inherited the northeast part of his father's kingdom and is mentioned briefly in the Bible by Luke (3,1): Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis. He married his niece Salome, the daughter of Herodias, who appears in the Bible in connection with the execution of John the Baptist.

His half-brother, also called Herod Philip, was the son of Herod the Great and his third wife Mariamne II, and married Herodias.
