"Hero of the Day" is a song by Metallica in their 1996 album Load. It is about people who are looking for heroes in the media and that they are not realizing that those you should be "worshipping" are the people you come across in everyday life.
The song starts on a simple guitar play, while the heavy guitars don't start for a while. This song was Metallica's second single release of the "Load" album. Based on singles sales it is Metallica's tenth largest hit to date. A live video also accompanied the song, which is rare in comparison to most Metallica songs before 1988's "One" on the ...And Justice for All album. This song is another example of how Metallica has entered their "alternative rock" era.
The music video for this song was directed by Anton Corbijn and featured a drunk man watching a television, while every channel of the television featured Metallica in some way (in a Western called Load, a drink called "load", a game show called "Hero of the Day", etc.)
