Herndon High School is a public high school in Herndon, Virginia.

The school, which serves grades 9-12, is a part of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) system. Herndon High School serves the communities of Herndon and the northern part of Reston. The school has approximately 2400 students, with over 80 countries represented. Its mascot is the Hornet and its rival is South Lakes High School in Reston.

Herndon High School began in 1911 at 901 Locust Street. In 1930, enrollment was seventy-one students and they offered classes such as home economics, agriculture, and business education. In 1942, they opened the first school cafeteria in Fairfax County at Herndon High School and they began offering classes in industrial arts. In the early 1950’s, they expanded the building to hold more students.

In 1961, Herndon Intermediate School began within the Herndon High School building. In 1962 the school expanded even more. In 1967 the High School moved to its current Bennett Street location, leaving Herndon Intermediate School at Locust Street with 650 students and 39 teachers.

Under the direction of Mr. Richard Bergman, the Herndon band program has thrived. In 1991, the band won the prestigious Sousa award. The marching band is directed by Chuck Hawkins, a battalion chief at Fairfax county's Fire House #36. The school newspaper is called the Stinger and has an award-winning literary magazine, Scribe.

Its website has won FCPS Site of the Year twice.

In the 2005-06 season, the Herndon High School basketball team finished second in the state championship. Point guard Scottie Reynolds (#3) graduated in 2006 and will be playing for Villanova University in the 2006-07 season. In the 2005-06 season junior Abraham Dagnachew placed 3rd in the 1600m and 2nd in the 800m in the AAA outdoor track and field state meet and also a two time state champ.

Herndon High School is a fully accredited high school based on the Standards of Learning tests in Virginia. The average SAT score in 2006 for Herndon was a 1,579 (525 in Critical Reading, 540 in Math, and 514 in Writing).
