Hernán Justo

Hernán Justo is an Argentine ballet dancer and currently the artistic director of the Carolina Ballet Theatre in Greenville, South Carolina, United States.

Justo started to study ballet at the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. In 1974, after eight years, he became a professional dancer in the Ballet de Tucumán, then in the Ballet Teatro Argentino de la Plata, and shortly afterwards as trainee in the Colón Theater Ballet.

In 1988 he left his home country for Chile, where he was a company member from 1988 through 1990 at the Santiago Ballet. In 1991 he moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where he worked with Nina Novak, prima ballerina of the Monte Carlo Ballet Russe.

In 1992 Justo won the Best Couple Award at the 15th International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria, and in 1993 he was awarded a prize for Best Classical Interpretation at the Prix Volinine in Paris, France.

Since 1994 he lives in the United States, where from 1994 until 2000 he performed as main dancer for the North Carolina Dance Theater. He retired in 2000. He married ballerina Anita Pacylowski and is the father of three children.
