Herbert Edward Ryle

Herbert Edward Ryle (18561925), was a distinguished Old Testament scholar. He was the son of John Charles Ryle, the first Bishop of Liverpool.

He was made Bishop of Exeter in 1901, in 1903 Bishop of Winchester and in 1911 Dean of Westminster. Between 1886 and 1888, he was Principal of St. David's University College, now the University of Wales, Lampeter.
