Henry Somerset, 9th Duke of Beaufort

Captain Henry Adelbert Wellington FitzRoy Somerset, 9th Duke of Beaufort (May 19, 1847November 24, 1924) was a British peer, the son of Henry Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort.

He was educated between 1860 and 1864 at Eton College. He gained the rank of Cornet in 1865 in the service of the Royal Horse Guards and gained the rank of Captain in 1869. He was Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria in 1899 and held the office of High Steward of Bristol in 1899.

He was Hereditary Keeper of Raglan Castle. He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the service of the Gloucestershire Yeomanry and held the office of Deputy Lieutenant of Gloucestershire. He was J.P. for Monmouthshire, Deputy Lieutenant of Monmouthshire and J.P. for Gloucestershire.

Somerset married Louise Emily Harford (1864–1945), on 9 October 1895. They had three children:

  • Lady Blanche Linnie Somerset (1897–1968), married John Eliot, 6th Earl of St Germans.
  • Lady Diana Maud Nina Somerset 12 Sep 1898, d. 6 May 1935, married Captain Lindsey Shedden.
  • Sir Henry Hugh Arthur FitzRoy Somerset, 10th Duke of Beaufort b. 4 Apr 1900, d. 5 Feb 1984, married Princess Mary of Teck.

Somerset died and was buried in 1924, aged 77 at Badminton House, Gloucestershire.
