[edit] Biography
Henry Shefflin (nicknamed 'King Henry') was born in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny in 1979. He is a graduate of Waterford Institute of Technology and currently works with New Holland Finance, a subsidiary of Bank of Ireland Finance. His main area of responsibility is in the agri-business side of matters, handling the finance for all the New Holland tractor sales in the locality. His area of responsibility takes in the South-East region, including Tipperary, Kilkenny, Wexford, Carlow and Kildare. Shefflin plays his local club hurling with Ballyhale Shamrocks and has had much success with the club at under-age level. It was rumoured in 2004 that Shefflin was moving clubs to play in Cork with Blackrock, however, this rumour was unfounded.
Since beginning his playing career at inter-county level, the six foot two inches tall Kilkenny forward has had much success. He has won one Leinster Intermediate medal, two Leinster Minor medals, one All-Ireland and Leinster Under-21 medals in 1999, Intermediate and Minor A Club Championship medals with Ballyhale and one All-Ireland Senior Colleges medal. Shefflin also won two Fitzgibbon Cup medals with Waterford Institute of Technology in 1999 and 2000. Since joining the Kilkenny senior panel he has won four All-Ireland titles in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006, seven Leinster titles between 1999 and 2006, and four League titles in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. He also received six All Stars for Kilkenny in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Shefflin was voted RTÉ's Sport Person of the Year 2006.
Shefflin's scoring prowess has earned him a place on the top ten list of all-time scoring greats in hurling. He is currently in third position along with fellow Kilkenny greats D.J. Carey and Eddie Keher.
