Henry Dundas, 3rd Viscount Melville

Henry Dundas, 3rd Viscount Melville GCB (1801-1876) was a British military leader.

The eldest son of Robert Dundas, 2nd Viscount Melville, he was captain of the 83rd Regiment from 1824, and was active in suppressing the Canadian rebellion in 1837. In 1841 he was appointed colonel and aide-de-camp to Queen Victoria, and played a distinguished part in the Second Anglo-Sikh War (1848-49), as second in command at the capture of Multan. He became 3rd Viscount Melville on his father's death in 1851, but continued his military career, being raised to the rank of general in 1868. He was awarded the Order of the Bath in 1870.

His younger brother, Richard Saunders Dundas was a prominent naval officer.
