Henrietta, New York

Henrietta is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of Rochester. The population was 39,028 at the 2000 census. The town is named after the Duchess of Bath, daughter of William Johnstone Pulteney, a major British investor in U.S. real estate at the end of the 18th century. Henrietta is home to the Rochester Institute of Technology. Henrietta was established in 1818.

The west town line is defined by the Genesee River. To the north is the town of Brighton, to the east is the town of Pittsford, and to the South is the town of Rush. On the other side of the Genesee River is the town of Chili.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 92.2 km² (35.6 mi²). 91.7 km² (35.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (0.53%) is water.
Henrietta is south of the City of Rochester.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 39,028 people, 12,823 households, and 8,501 families residing in the town. The population density was 425.6/km² (1,102.2/mi²). There were 13,243 housing units at an average density of 144.4/km² (374.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 84.27% White, 6.94% African American, 0.27% Native American, 5.49% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 2.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.03% of the population.
There were 12,823 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town the population was spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 23.9% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 111.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 113.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $51,081, and the median income for a family was $60,803. Males had a median income of $39,636 versus $30,271 for females. The per capita income for the town was $19,821. About 3.2% of families and 9.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.3% of those under age 18 and 3.3% of those age 65 or over.

- Riverton -- Intended to be a planned community; now just apartments and townhomes by the name of "Riverton Knolls" in West Henrietta.
- West Henrietta -- A community in Henrietta centered around the intersection of W. Henrietta Rd. and Erie Station Rd., on one corner is The West Henrietta Baptist Church, built in 1838, also including subdivisions to the west up to the Genesee River such as Riverton Knolls. ZIP code 14586.
- East Henrietta -- A community in Henrietta centered around the intersection of E. Henrietta Rd. and Lehigh Station Rd.; was the site of the original Henrietta High School (Monroe Academy). ZIP code 14467.
The northern portion of the town has a Rochester ZIP code--14623 (the Rochester Post Office sectional center is on Jefferson Road in Henrietta).

Rush-Henrietta's mascot is the Royal Comet, so named for the fragments of a comet that famously landed in the area in 1907. It was said to have brought good luck, although later scientific inquiry reveals it the cause of an elevated radiation level in the town. The mascot came from the merger of two high schools - The Rush Henrietta Roth Royals and the Rush Henrietta Sperry Comets.
It should be noted that the town of Henrietta and the town of Rush are one combined school district.
