Henri Arnault de Zwolle (ca.1400 - 1466) was employed as a physician and an astronomer to Philip III, Duke of Burgundy.
In 1440 he provided in a Latin manuscript the earliest illustration of a harpsichord. He gave a detailed description of the action and the operation of this keyboard plucked instrument with the complex linkages between the keyboard and the strings. He also described the lute and the clavichord.
He later worked for the French kings Charles VII and Louis XI.
