Henderson is a city in York County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 986.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.6 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 986 people, 417 households, and 293 families residing in the city. The population density was 692.2/km² (1,791.4/mi²). There were 453 housing units at an average density of 318.0/km² (823.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.49% White, 0.20% Native American and 0.30% Asian.

There were 417 households out of which 23.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% were married couples living together, 3.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% were non-families. 29.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.67.

In the city the population was spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 18.3% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 35.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 50 years. For every 100 females there were 84.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $37,321, and the median income for a family was $43,333. Males had a median income of $31,950 versus $20,288 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,689. About 3.1% of families and 5.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.8% of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.
