Helsorjien

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helsorjien is an English-speaking music band founded in the summer of 2003 by Jens Truckenbrodt. The name of the band is associated with a fictious landscape, built together with their first album, EXIL. This landscape is based on the scenery from Tim Burton's film, Sleepy Hollow.

[edit] History

Originally, Truckenbrodt was working on music production for Infected Surface and Noctyrium, two of his other bands. Then he raised the idea to found an ambient band. After some single releases, he released the album EXIL. The relaxing music shows numberless small facets that are composed minutely. In 2005, Tobias Kuhn joined for booking, management and as a live member. He had known Jens for years and he has made his mark as a DJ in the electro music scene. At the same time, they played a live DJ set with the first songs of their album, ECHOES. At the end of 2005, they released the EP, VIRGO A. It compliments their earlier ambient work and innovates at the same time. At the beginning of 2006, they sent the promo CD of BYTE CLUB to DJs and radio stations, which brought a profitable record deal.

[edit] Jens Truckenbrodt

He is the songwriter, vocalist, producer and DJ. Born and raised in Jena, Germany, his grandfather was (conductor of the most famous German Democratic Republic orchestras and also a music teacher on the "Jenaer Philharmonie" in special subject french horn) showed him very early what the fantastic world of music is all about. At the age of 6, he had his first piano lessons and was beside his grandfather while he conducted the big ones. Then at 11, he explored his interest in classical guitar and later on, electronic pianos. It was in his youth when he would hang around with some musicians, that he first met semi-professional studio engineers and did some small budget recording sessions. But before they released anything, he took part in a junior high band (Dying Soul) and won 2 prizes at regional competitions.

In 1995, Truckenbrodt did his first own release under Noctyrium, his neo-classic band at the time. The recording studio was a little room at his parents' house with just two synthesizers, an analog mixer and an old computer. His first job in Germany was in a little firm in Munich, where he worked as an author and designer for educational and promotional software, but he was soon on to bigger and better things as a songwriter and record producer.

In the following years, Truckenbrodt had worked together with many friends and done some live musician jobs for their regional gigs. He was soon a little more known and did many demos and releases with different names (Alpha21, Dying Soul) from 1995 to 2002. Due to a poor industry situation, he started his first experiences in Ireland, and at this moment, he met national (Ireland) and international (England, France) DJs. He got excited by the fresh sounds and wrote his first songs with neo-classic, industrial and dance patterns in the mix. The Noctyrium album, Abstinenztheorie, Kapitel 2 was written and produced by Truckenbrodt, and released in 2002 comprising of about 12 electronic rock tracks, mixed with cool, soothing samples.

In 2002, Truckenbrodt met a German friend and decided to change his own style - his own brand of music. Autumn 2003, Truckenbrodt was again on tour, this time to support as a live keyboarder in his friends band. However, through different misconceptions, after a great time, this friendship broke up. He went back down to a good friend in England, where he took a break away from all the stuff.

Then in fall 2004, he moved to Leipzig, Germany, to start working there for a big computer firm, to save some money for much bigger studio equipment and instruments. He continues his work on the Helsorjien and Infected Surface albums, just to find out, he should concentrate his work on one project at all. So he decided winter 2005, to give Helsorjien a new look and feel.

[edit] Tobias Kuhn

Kuhn is the songwriter, manager, booker and DJ. Born and raised in Jena, Germany. His enthusiasm for music started early, some memories tell that already at the age of 5 he listened to a lot of music. 4 years later he began a piano and accordion education for almost 5 years. To feel that music is most supernatural helper in any situation raised his joy in music more and more.

He collected a lot of vinyls and CDs from artists that he admired. Music was always a big part in the sense of life to him. In the late 1990s, he started to travel in some european countries like France and Sweden to work as a DJ beside his education as an electronican. Above all, electro, industrial and synth-pop were his brand names. These were this big euphoria and the fun in the music, his enthusiasm steadily allowed to grow.

In 2000, he got to know Truckenbrodt with the common alternative service, and when estimate the best friend. From now on one influenced himself also musically mutually. In 2001, Kuhn founded his project, Constellation-D, which found together with Truckenbrodt Projects, big reminiscence.

One never lost his purposes out of sight, even if Kuhn works for a long time in Munich. In 2005, he took up his study of Business-Engineering and being a member of Helsorjien.

[edit] Musical Advancement

It's not easy to associate Helsorjien with any musical genre by means of releases and continuous reinterpretations. While their debut-album, EXIL, turned out to be more Chillout music their second album, VIRGO A, was a classical "Film Noir" genre soundtrack. With BYTE CLUB, they successfully created a blend of electronic dance and electronica. The release of their upcoming album, ECHOES, will lay on with the styles of trip hop, electroclash and progressive rock.
