Helen Sussman

Helen Sussman is a South African politician. She was one of the few members of the South African Parliament who opposed the racist apartheid regime. In her first speech in the Parliament (ca. 1955), she criticized apartheid—a brazen act unheard of at the time. She encountered death threats—both from angry citizens and from other politicians—and lived to see the apartheid era end.
