Helen Maksagak

Helen Mamayaok Maksagak (CM, LL.D Hon.) (born April 15, 1931) was Commissioner of the Northwest Territories (Canada) from January 16, 1995 to March 26, 1999. As such she was both the first woman and first Inuk to hold the position.
In March 1999, she became the first commissioner of the newly created Nunavut Territory serving until April 2000.
She is currently the Deputy Commissioner of Nunavut.
