[edit] Playtime Revisited

Quietly correcting the spelling of Les Neuf Sœurs must not have been all "playtime". I never thanked you for it. I'm doing it now with added moral support for 'Playtime'. That is what the movie was about : Playtime ( the carousel reflected in the window of the skyscraper ...remember ?) It certainly was not about Playing Time. (Ingmar Bergman could have made that one I guess)

Of course PlayTime remains an option ( qua Tativille )

  • Thanks a lot. I learnt something with this article.Hektor 15:57, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Helen Sharman

Not sure if you are able or inclined to help. I have read the article on Helen Sharman, which incorrectly states that she lit the flame at the 1991 Universiade in Sheffield. I was present at the event and saw what happened, as did several thousand other people in person and probably at least several hundred thousand on television. However, as an eyewitness description of the event counts for nothing on wikipedia, I wonder if you could help. You apparently have a copy of Ms. Sharman's autobiography. Could you please cite it, if possible, as a source corroborating that in reality Ms. Sharman did NOT light the flame, but in fact fell over, dropped the burning part of the torch on the track, and merely waved the handle at the flame, which lit automatically. It was one of the most cringingly embarrassing things I've ever seen in my life. Of course, it's entirely possible that Ms. Sharman has omitted to mention this event in her book. If so, I apologise for wasting your time.

  • There is no reference about any of this in her book, which is focused on her early life and her space flight. Hektor 08:35, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:0714exp14news01.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:0714exp14news01.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in its not being deleted. Thank you.

[edit] Regarding Anna Marek

You have recently re-created the article Anna Marek, which was deleted in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policies. Please do not re-create the article. If you disagree with the article's deletion, you may ask for a deletion review. SkerHawx 12:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

    • The person who has deleted the article has made a lousy work. You cannot even use the talk page. Hektor 12:28, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you.

This is your last warning. The next time you remove a speedy deletion notice from an article you created, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. SkerHawx 12:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Please follow proper protocol, as outlined above if you wish to participate in a deletion review. Thank you. SkerHawx 12:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

    • Have you seen my background. I have spent HUNDREDS of hours editing and improving wikipedia and you are treating me as if I was some stupid newcomer. This is disgusting.

[edit] Gamesbids

The policy says : "Consider adding the article to your watchlist and letting the article's creator know that you have tagged it" I have discovered today that you have deleted this article, obviously without letting me know that you have tagged it. Although the policy is not mandatory, I consider the way you handled this as bad manner. I would have liked to argue against the deletion. Hektor 18:57, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not the one who either tagged or deleted it. Check the deletion log again: 10:57, October 11, 2006 Merope (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "Gamesbids" (CSD R1 content was: '{{db-r1}}#REDIRECT GamesBids')
- UtherSRG (talk) 19:02, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Then I have to present my most sincere apologies. Hektor 19:05, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Accepted. And looking further, you didn't edit the article, so why whould someone notify you?

    • As far as I remember, I created it. I have not changed my user name since I started wikipedia. I don't say it shouldn't be deleted, after all who am I to judge instead of the consensus ? but I would have appreciated to go through the non-accelerated processus. Thanks for the heads up. Hektor 19:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
      • You (the person) may very well have created it, but it appears that you were not logged in when you did. - UtherSRG (talk) 20:02, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Looking even further, I *did* delete GameBids (note the capitalization): 10:58, October 10, 2006 UtherSRG (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "GamesBids" ({{prod}} > 5 days)

The last edit was the prod'ing by Peta 5 days earlier:

  1. 03:13, October 5, 2006 . . Petaholmes (Talk | contribs | block) (prod)

And the first edit was by the same anon as above:

  1. 05:15, April 29, 2005 . . 82.127.193.67 (Talk | block)

Your first edit of the article was about 8 months later, perhaps when you created your account:

  1. 06:03, December 11, 2005 . . Hektor (Talk | contribs | block)

My suggestion is to take all of the articles you create or have a significant interest in and add them to your watchlilst, and regularly check the list.

My apologies for any frustrations the deletion has caused. - UtherSRG (talk) 20:09, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I fear you're right, I probably created it at a time when you still could create articles without being logged. Anyway, I will try a deletion review, to see if we can reach a consensus. Thanks for checking again and for the time you spent on this. Hektor 20:22, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buffon

I think there has to be a bit of give and take here. There have been multiple edits with this article and its redirects. I've redirected it now to the Buffon disambiguation page. This is where IMO it should be redirected and suits all parties. Niall123 20:17, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I just can't get it, on one hand a ball pusher in short pants and on the other a great scientist.... It's like if Einstein was a disambiguation page between the physicist and the bagel shop.Hektor 20:23, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
While Buffon the naturalist has done more for human civilisation than Buffon the goalkeeper, I'm fairly sure that when people type Buffon into the wikipedia search bar, for the most part they are probably looking for the goalkeeper. I think this way strikes a better balance and in the long run should hopefully keep everyone happy. I'd imagine that if you left it directing to Buffon the naturalist you will have an endless amount of redits to back. I'll keep an eye on this to make sure it doesn't go to BUffon the goalkeeper. Niall123 17:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I hope we don't do that later with Socrates. Hektor 17:21, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] STS-120

You have recently vandalized the article STS-120. This is really not a good idea and could result in your being blocked. Hektor 11:41, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

This was due to a bug in loading the page in CorHomo and I wasn't aware of the problem. You can see from my edit summary that I was in the process of disambiguating links to the word Japanese, one of which is still on the STS-120 page and which I will fix now. I'm not sure why it loaded the arc page instead of STS-120, but if you had looked at my contributions it would have been clear I was editing in good faith. Vandalism and human/machine error are not the same thing. Dekimasu 15:00, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, perfect. Hektor 16:07, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Linda Ham and SNL

On the Linda Ham talk page back in August, you mentioned seeing an old SNL episode that parodied her. You were right! I just found the transcript, and am considering mentioning it in the article. Thanks for bringing it to attention. MLilburne 08:12, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:C-triomphe.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:C-triomphe.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Albertville article

[edit] Image:Veil.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Veil.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

• Am doing that because one day when I came back after a break Anna Marek was deleted and protected. :( . Since then I tend not to like it when an article is prodded without warning the creator. This is really a sneaky way to delete an article.Hektor 20:28, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Sts-125 crew 2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sts-125 crew 2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 17:46, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, didn't notice the template cause it wasn't one of the image copyright tags. --Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 18:21, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Invite to WikiProject World Rally

Stephane Sarrazain, Monte Carlo 2005 Hello, and thank you for your contributions on articles related to rallying. I'd like to invite you to become a part of WikiProject World Rally, a new WikiProject aiming to improve coverage of World Rally Championship and related articles on Wikipedia.

As you can see from the image on the left, we haven't achieved a four-wheel-drive yet. If you would like to help out and participate, please visit the project page for more information. Thanks, Prolog 04:57, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Anna Marek

My guess is that the crux of this problem is WP:PORN_BIO. The criteria put forth are pretty stern; Anna Marek apparently doesn't meet them. I understand the need for stringent notability criteria when porn stars are concerned; the reasons are obvious. But what does it all mean? It could only be one of the following:

  1. WP:PORN_BIO is too narrow and should be changed.
  2. We are in fact mistaken, and Anna Marek is indeed not a notable actress.

I somehow don't see #2 as compelling. As for #1, notice that the first criterion per WP:PORN_BIO are awards, which are all American. And that's it, I'm out of ideas... GregorB 20:08, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Good to see things moving. I'd say I made some decent points, if I may say so myself... GregorB 22:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Now this really begins to stink. I thought that deletion requires rough consensus, and the votes were nowhere near consensus. The admin chose to discount "Keep" votes on grounds that writing an article about someone without reliable sources is "not a good idea at all". Well, the last time I checked the admin does not get to decide what is and what isn't a good idea: this defeats the whole purpose of the discussion. It's a procedural error. I'd like to see this issue escalated. GregorB 20:04, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Assent, what is the right procedure? Another deletion review? Also see my comment on WP:PORNBIO talk page. MadMaxDog 06:01, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:200611240023.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:200611240023.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Ginevra Elkann

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Ginevra Elkann, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Ginevra Elkann. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria.
