Heidern is a character in the King of Fighters series.
[edit] History
Heidern is the commander of the Ikari Warriors, and issues commands to his adopted daughter Leona Heidern and his best soldiers Clark Steel, Whip, and Ralf Jones; and is also known as the "General of the soldiers of Fortune". Back in 1986 (eight years prior to the King of Fighters '94 tournament), Rugal Bernstein had kidnapped Heidern's wife, Sandra, and daughter, Clara, and challenged him to try and take them back from him. Heidern had no choice but to take the bait, and he and his men directly assaulted Rugal at his Blacknoah. Rugal killed all of Heidern's men by himself, saving Heidern for last. Before Rugal could finish him off, Heidern's family interveined, and sacrificed themselves to save him. The incident left Heidern alone, and missing an eye. After that, Heidern made it his mission to get revenge. After he had re-established his team, the Ikari Warriors, he went after Rugal to get his revenge.
He is the master of his own brutal self-made martial art, involving cutting with the use of bladed gloves, which seem to conceal explosives and a form of energy generator (used for his signature attack, Storm Bringer). Though, it's possible that this is simply ki.
[edit] Trivia
- He was introduced in Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue. He appears in various cut scenes.
- Heidern appears as Whip's unlockable Maniac Striker in the console version of KOF 2000.
- While he may be intimidating in appearance (and his fighting style is just downright sadistic), Heidern is actually a calm individual who deeply cares for his subordinates. Because of his intimidating appearance and his sadistic fighting, some might think that Heidern is actually either a dark character, a tragic character, or both.
- Heidern's life-draining Storm Bringer attack probably takes its name from the fictional sword Stormbringer, which has the power to steal its victims' life force and replenish that of its wielder.
- Heidern adopted Leona when he found her, the last survivor of the destruction of her village, during a mission deep in the jungle (it is not specified, but it is speculated that the mission was in South America or Southeast Asia). Heidern truly loves Leona as a daughter, and while their attitude might be completely professional when in each other's presence, it is noticeable that they deeply care for each other.
- Heidern lost his eye when fighting against Rugal Bernstein, after Rugal slaughtered Heidern's family, and the hatred he feels toward Rugal is probably deeper than any other feud in the KOF storyline (though it's mostly one-sided, as Rugal isn't too concerned about Heidern).
- Heidern is Ralf and Clark's (and later Leona and Whip's) commanding officer, as well as the one who trained them in self defense. It is interesting to note, however, that only Leona has a fighting style that resembles Heidern's Assassination style.
- When fighting against Ralf or Clark, Heidern does a commanding pose with his cattle whip towards them before the fight. However, when fighting Leona, he stands at ease with a smile before saluting her silently.
- In The King of Fighters '98, Heidern was part of the "Oyaji" ("pops" or "daddy") team, along with Takuma and Saisyu Kusanagi (considering these facts, Takuma is Ryo and Yuri's father as well as Robert's mentor, Saisyu is Kyo's dad and Heidern is Leona's adopted father). Although '98 is a dreammatch, it is not out of the realm of possibility that they are all acquainted and friendly towards each other, since Takuma and Saisyu *are* old friends in the KoF storyline.
- Heidern can be heard to say "Go to hell!" during his DM moves, Final Bringer (a souped-up Stormbringer that "homes in" on a foe) and Heidern End (where he stabs his enemy through the chest with his hand and an explosion occurs after he says the line).
- Heidern's voice actor is Toshimitsu Arai, who was, ironically, the same voice actor as Heidern's archenemy: Rugal Bernstein.
