Hegde is a surname or Family name which has its roots and manifest in the Indian state of Karnataka. Its part of a bigger caste system called Havyaka Brahmins.

However there are also Jain, Konkani, Bunts and Tuluva origins of the surname "Hegde" too.

Hegde means chiefman or head.

Hegde is also the name of a village in Karnataka.
