Heather Reid

Heather Reid (born c.1969) is a Scottish meteorologist and a television weather presenter for BBC Scotland.
Reid was born in Paisley, and graduated from Edinburgh University with an honours degree in physics. She followed this with a masters degree in image processing from Edinburgh University's Meteorology Department.
She has been employed by the UK Met Office since 1993, and works as a weather forecaster at Glasgow Weather Centre.
Since 1994, 'Heather the Weather' has been BBC Scotland's main weather forecaster, having presented the weather on Reporting Scotland since 1994. Her usual opening sentence to her forecasts, 'Hello there', has become somewhat of a catchphrase, and she is well known for her cheery and optimistic outlook, even when the weather is poor.
Between 1999 and 2001, Reid was Chairperson of the Institute of Physics in Scotland. She is also is a fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and has an honorary lectureship in the Physics and Astronomy Dept at Glasgow University. In 2001, she was awarded the Public Awareness of Physics prize for her science communication work from the Institute of Physics.
She is also employed part-time by the Glasgow Science Centre to develop educational weather shows and workshops.
