Heart of America Sports Attractions (also known as Central States Wrestling) is an American professional wrestling promotion. The original promotion lasted from the early 1950s to the late 1980s. In 2005 the name of the promotion (Central States Wrestling) was revived by the National Wrestling Alliance's NWA Midwest franchise. The new Central States Wrestling promotion is based in Lawrence, Kansas.

[edit] History

Originally known as the Midwest Wrestling Association and representing territories in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa, the circuit was a cornerstone office of the National Wrestling Alliance as promoters Pinky George and Orville Brown were two of the NWA’s founding members in 1948. The territory was eventually taken over by Bob Geigel in 1958, who then partnered with Pat O’Connor and Harley Race to form Heart of America Sports Attractions, Inc., which continued to serve among the NWA’s most prominent divisions until it was acquired by Jim Crockett Promotions in 1986. The promotion later bought back its independence and withdrew from the NWA in late-1987, forming a sanctioning body called the World Wrestling Alliance and also forming an affiliation with the AWA before closing its doors in 1989. The promotion's classic tape library is currently controlled by World Wrestling Entertainment. (See WWE Tape Library.)

The name Central States Wrestling was brought back by NWA Midwest in 2005 when independent promotion MRW (Midwest Renegade Wrestling) announced that they would be renamed NWA: Central States Wrestling. The MRW was a promotion based in St. Louis and in its first stint lasted from 1996 to 2000. The promotion was brought back in 2004, this time in the Kansas City area, and a few months later it was renamed Central States Wrestling. The promoter for the current version of Central States Wrestling is Joe MacDonald.

Considering the lack of professional wrestling in Kansas and Missouri, the new Central States Wrestling promotion has been doing very well usually holding a show once a month in Lawrence, Kansas at the local National Guard Armory, which is sometimes referred to by CSW commentator Jeremy Seager as the CSW Arena. In the summer of 2005 shows were also held at the Lawrence Community Center because it was cooler with the air conditioning there. The promotion has brought in big names from TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling) such as Raven, Sabu (no longer apart of TNA), Abyss, Sonjay Dutt, AJ Styles, "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, and also Ring Of Honor wrestlers Colt Cabana, Ace Steel, and Matt Sydal.
