The parent corporation, HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) is based in Nashville, Tennessee. HCA, a for-profit hospital corporation, purchased these hospitals in 2003 from Health Midwest, Inc., a non-profit hospital corporation. HCA's focus nationwide has been to close hospitals and units which are not profitable, particularly psychiatric hospitals and units, and expand their services in more affluent markets. Baptist-Lutheran Medical Center, one of the HCA Midwest Hospitals, closed in April of 2006.
