WP:ESP/UPA templates

I've just had a look at your sandbox UPA template, User:Haza-w/Sandbox, and was wondering if it would be best to just update the three existing ones (Template:Upajudge, Template:Upanudge, and Template:Upawinner) with the improvements (the subst:pagename, parameter for overseer, any others?) but keep them as three separate templates. I think having the templates separate is simpler, but your other improvements are well worth using. If that seems ok are you willing to do the updating? Cheers, Petros471 13:08, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

New Birthday Committee Bulletin Format

Birthday Committee Bulletin Board

I just have a few announcements.

  • A new sub-discussion page has been formed to discuss the possibility of a change to the membership requirements. I am aware that while I think that they should be raised, others feel that there shouldn't even be any. Please post your opinion on Wikipedia talk:Birthday Committee/Membership Requirements Steveo2 11:03, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Please see the BDC Talk Page for more news, including the possibility of a merger with Esperanza. Steveo2 11:19, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
  • While Steveo2 is gone, I will take his place as Current Leader. If you have any comments, ideas, or any questions feel free to contact me. Mr. Turcottetalk
  • We added a second First Edit Day Template a few weeks ago. We have also added four Happy Adminship templates in the past few days as well. Be sure to wish users a First Edit Birthday and Adminship anniversary. The users and their dates can be found on the Esperanza Calendar on the Project Page. Enjoy. Thistheman
  • Many thanks to Draicone for adding headers to our Birthday Committee pages. They look wonderful! Thistheman
  • Remember the rules for new birthday templates. You only need my approval if the template is drastically different from the ones already existing. (Just to be clear, I realize I have no right to dictate which templates you can make and keep. However, only the ones I approve will appear on the Wikipedia:Birthday Committee page.) While Steveo2 is gone you have to get my approval. Mr. Turcottetalk
  • If you'd like, you may post on this bulletin board. It's found on Template:BDC Bulletin 1. You may use it to suggest new policy changes, or anything else you think is too important to only go on the talk page. Sign all announcements that you add. Mr. Turcottetalk
  • Everyone is doing an excellent job wishing people a happy birthday and getting the word of our committee out. Thanks everyone! You can check which Wikipedians have been wished a Happy Birthday here. Mr. Turcottetalk
  • As we reach 140 members wished by committee members, I'd like to point out that we're only limited by the number of people listing their birthday on the Esparanza calendar. So shouldn't we focus on encouraging users to add their important dates, so that our 15 odd members (and any new ones, like me!) have enough work to go round? --Draicone (talk) 14:37, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

User Page Judging

Hi Haza-w! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll have three user pages to examine. The user pages you get coincide with your signup number. So if you signed up to be a judge in spot 1 than you will get nominations 1-3. Pick your favorite one, and list it in the finalist section. After all 5 judges have chosen a finalist it's time to award them 1-10 points in the four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

Please see the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

Keep in mind that your scores are confidential! Email Petros471 with your scores and final picks. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced! Thanks.

Good thing you mentioned the UPA. Because I've been so busy recently, I didn't even notice that I've been nominated! Hehe. :) -→Buchanan-Hermit/!? 01:48, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank-you

The count is in, and now I join the crew who wield the mops and pails.
Thanks for your support! I pledge to serve both you and Jimbo Wales.

If you have anything you need, then please don't think to hesitate.

For I am the very model of a grateful admin designate!

Merci beaucoup!

Thank you, Haza-w/Archive5!
Thank you for voting for my recent RfA, which passed (to my extreme surprise and shock) with a total tally of 66/15/2. For that, I would like to thank you and offer a helping hand in any admin-related tasks that may be required -- it's as simple as leaving a message on my talkpage. Thanks again! -→Buchanan-Hermit/!? 22:32, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Ancient Greek Wikisource

I understand from your userboxes you're interested in Ancient Greek. I've submitted a proposal to add an Ancient Greek Wikisource on Meta, and I'd be very grateful if you could assist me by either voting in Support of the proposal, or even adding your name as one of the contributors in the template. (NB: I'm posting this to a lot of people, so please reply to my talkpage or to Meta) --Nema Fakei 20:24, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Rugby ball.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Rugby ball.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ed g2stalk 17:34, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Tone's RfA thanks

Dear Haza-w/Archive5 — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 46/2/3 so now I am an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any anything I can help you with in the future. And please correct me, if you spot I make a mistake. Thank you again. --Tone 23:59, 26 May 2006 (UTC))

User:Haza-w/cactions.js

Do you think you could add this tool to your cactions script thing? It's the MathBot tool to show how much the user uses edit summaries. +Hexagon1 (t) 11:56, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Etymology of "mathematics"

May I appeal to your knowledge of Greek? The article Mathematics is the current Article Improvement Drive collaboration. I find the etymological section in the article slightly dubious, and have posted a comment on the talk page: Talk:Mathematics#Etymology of "mathematics". I've asked the same question to Enkyklios, but I think he may be on a wikibreak. Your input will be greatly appreciated. --LambiamTalk 21:40, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

A minor bug

Your cactions tool doesn't work on pages that have an ampersand (&) in the title. (Example:Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Single). This isn't a big deal since the word and is usually spelled out in page titles. --TantalumTelluride 22:32, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm also having a problem using the tool on the Billy "Crash" Craddock article because of the quotation marks in the title. I've never noticed this problem before today. Since you haven't edited in several days and I don't know when you'll be back, I'm going to take the script out of my .js until you get a chance to reply. --TantalumTelluride 05:54, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! It works great now. --TantalumTelluride 19:27, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

A haiku of thanks

Thanks for your support
In my RfA, which passed!
Wise I'll try to be.

I'm greatful for your support! Keep up the admin-hopes, I'm sure it will happen!

-- Natalya 03:10, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Signature

I've protected the pages as you requested. However, you can also create a page at for example User:Haza-w/Foo.js. The system treats this like any other .js page, so you can edit it, and admins can edit it, but no-one else can. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 16:45, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Also, you can get slightly easier to work with Switch code with

{{#switch:{{CURRENTDAY2}}-{{CURRENTMONTH}}
|01-04=Example 1
|25-12=Example 2
}}
This will return Example 1 and Example 2 on April Fools Day and Christmas respectively, eliminating the need for the #expr template. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 16:52, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Your edit count

I regret to inform you that you don't quite have 2000 edits yet. Your 2000th edit will be the twelfth after this one, unless a rogue admin mercilessly deletes some of your edits in the near future.

Elaine_Bowers

Could you review your revert at [1]. While the edit you reverted might be a duplication of a previous link in the article, I really can't see how it is 'vandalism'. Shenme 19:07, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

You said that I vandalized the aricle, Elaine Bowers. How? Instead of, "Elaine's role in the book is to tell...", I added the book title, "Elaine's role in the book, I'm a Weed, is to tell..." I added it to clarify which book. If it is because I forgot to use the Edit summary, I apologize. --71.104.176.175 18:20, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Image:WikiThanks.png Hi Haza-w/Archive5, thank you for voting in my RFA which failed eventually at a result of (91/51/8). I do not plan to run for adminship until a later date. Once again, I would like to thank you for voting. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 14:46, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

WP:ESP/UPA

Hello, Haza-w. This is a quick message to remind you that all 5 finalists for the Esperanza User Page Award have been chosen. You now need to judge those 5 pages, awarding each one 1-10 points for attractiveness, usefulness, interesting-ness and general niceness. Refer to the Scores section at the project page if you are unsure of how to score.

Once you have scored the 5 pages, email Petros471 using the specified format. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced. Thanks. May the Force be with you! Shreshth91(review me!) 08:32, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

When I was 15...

I use to hate people who told me about when they were 15 as if we had something in common on that issue alone so snubbed them whenever I could. However my reference to 15 is only to say what I was doing at that age which is different from what you are doing at that age. My first introduction to the idea that a computer was really a new tool came at the age of 14 but I did not get into computers until I was 18 and only as a company or school owned mainframe... meaning that it was possible to write in assembler but what really interested me was cars and then electronics. So anyway at the risk of my words being rejected I'll just say how luck I think you are to be 15 and have all of the advantages of the advancements in computing most of which we never even dreamed about. Consequently I actually have a lot more catching up to do than you. Anyway though after seeing your psych profile that you might be interested in your political profile as well. Check out the Political Compass, take the test and see if you are "correct," politically that is. Oh, I'm posting this since you (or your bot) made a userbox correction on my user page. ...IMHO (Talk) 14:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

I recall that one of my projects was to improve the airflow to the carborator and an attempt at installing an blower. One thing I did accomplish was to build a ultra high frequency transceiver with a plain old telephone handset and nine volt batteries. If now were then I'd probably be getting a bot to do everything I could except maybe for sleeping and eating. The thing I am forced to do now instead is to try and put everything that has accumulated over the years onto the wiki. (for examples see: Check sort and w:Half-life computations) I had an awful time with math when I first started school so it seems I'm trying to make it easy or simple for others. Consequently I am resigned to the fact that I will never have the inclination or time to become an administrator. BTW be careful of administrators. Some have extremely over sensitive egos and sharp teeth. They care nothing whatsoever about anyone except each other and sometimes hunt to kill in packs. A word of caution in case you have not experienced this already. ...IMHO (Talk) 16:23, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Bug

I know you probably won't get around reading this until you return on 5/9, but I seem to have found another bug in the cactions tool thing. Try using the tool here. See? It won't work, as it doesn't get rid of the "#Regions" part of the URL, and URL's like this are invalid for Wikipedia. +Hexagon1 (t) |*̥̲̅ ̲̅†̲̅| |>̲̅-̲̅| 02:55, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

I've noticed this, too, yes. —Nightstallion (?) 12:43, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and one more tiny bug, on redirected-to pages, your tool works with the redirect page instead, eg. on the page after this redirect Slunce, seno, jahody, the history option will get the history of that page, instead of Slunce, Seno, Jahody. +Hexagon1 (t) 09:42, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
OK, no worries. Southern California? I envy you, I've never even been to North America. :( Oh well, but you've probably never been to Australia, so I've still got that over you. :) +Hexagon1 (t) 02:43, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
