You're welcome :-)
You're welcome. Btw you've got an interesting résumé there... I always wanted to teach myself Latin and Ancient Greek but haven't accomplished yet :-) --BorgQueen 13:19, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
User cactions tool
I see you're using it - do you like it, and would you suggest improvements? haz (user talk)e 20:23, 2 March 2006
- I love the tool, really useful. One thing that could be added is a diff tag, immediately going to the last diff, rather than having to go into history and then loading the diff. Just a thought. --

Latin help
Hi, on your user page you said you speak Latin. So I wonder if you could help me out and translate/verify these 17 latin phrases. It would be a great help! Thanks in advance. Renata 04:26, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
My RfA

Thank you for your support during my RfA! It has decided to postpone making me an administrator based upon recent consensus (or lack thereof). Thanks for the kind remarks and I hope to continue to see you arount the project. Cheers, ZsinjTalk 08:31, 4 March 2006 (UTC) |
My RfA
Thank you for your support in my request for adminship. I'm delighted that the RfA succeeded with a final consensus of 52/17/7, and receiving comments including having 'excellent potential to become a great moderator', and I am now an administrator. It did however only just pass, and I shall do my very best to rectify any of my errors, including the general belief that I should do more article work. If you have any concerns, or if you ever feel that I may be able to help you, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. Again, thank you!
- I'm not sure if you left the note on my userpage thanking me, but it was an anon using your sig. Please feel free to rectify it. Ian13/talk 12:23, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
The picture
Let me think about the wikipedian picture gallery a few days. Thanks for the offer though and keep up the good work that you do.--Dakota ~ ° 10:51, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
Re: my RfA
One. I am disgusted by the way your RfA was denied by voters who blatantly ignored the RfA time rules. I truly hope you succeed on your re-run, on which I have voted support.
Two. London is, indeed, the best city in the world. While I do not live there any more and I am usually otherwise engaged, I would be happy to help out where I can in the maintenance of the London Portal.
Three. I love your userboxes. I can foresee a time when the EU becomes similar to the US in that its so-called "member states" will all simply become subservient states to it. In fact, we are all under EU law above national law anyway, and so this is similar to the US law system where state law is overridden by federal law. (And I don't want GB to have the same political status as Texas...)
Four. What did you study at Pembroke? (Am considering applying to Oxbridge soon and am still relatively undecided about what to study or where my life is going)
See you around. haz (user talk)e 21:24, 26 February 2006

- Well first and foremost let me apologise for the lateness of this reply. I have had lots of things to do recently and I knew that this reply would be quite long! Oh, I have also been spending far too much time watching India-England on the TV. Thank you very much for your support of my RfA - I must say I was pretty disappointed by the failing of the initial vote given that I was one hour away from outright success. However, there were some lessons to be learned, and it seems clear to me that someone like myself should not bother wasting their engery in RfA applications as adminship requires you to sacrifice fundemental thought process, something which I am unwilling to do and am strongly against in principle.
-
- Regarding London - the maintenance of the Portal is generally a monthly affair - the beginning of each month sees the various boxes being updated for the new month. However, increased participation would be nice in the in the voting/nominating for the showcase articles andshowcase pictures. It is a fairly simple task - just nominate good, relevant pages and support your favourite! Suggestions for DYKs are always useful too - on P:L we generally do them in subject blocks as opposed to a series of unrelated facts, as you can see by the archive. Finally, the requested articles page is woefully inadequate, which could suggest that Subject:London has been exhausted, or more likely that no one has bothered to request any! I think the aim is to increase participation from Wikipedians in these areas, so that there is a co-ordinated attempt to thoroughly cover all London-related ground.
-
- As for userboxes - many thanks for your compliments. As I have often stated, I am extremely proud of my opinions and openly declare my POV so that it is never in doubt and it can never be suggested that I have a hidden agenda. The EU is a menace in my view - it is undemocratic, woefully inefficient and over-powered by backward-leaning nationalists like France. Thankfully, the UK has managed to get itself into a position where it has enough power to a) impose some of its own agenda, b) opt out of some of the more stupid EU directives, and c) always maintains ultimate sovereignty throught its ability to leave the EU. In any case, we're free from the disaster that is the Euro, so for that we can be thankful!
-
- Finally, I should have slightly altered by Pembroke College userbox - I am actually going there next year... so "studied" is slightly wrong! I am reading Economics & Management... which is a bit of a bitch to get in for - I think the entries/applicants is about 16.5%. I managed to fluke my way in, which was highly amusing to me, but its quite a cool course and the only alternative was PPE... and I wasn't keen on the philosophy side of things. Cambridge only offered straight Economics, and Cambridge is a pretty crap city to be honest... unlike Oxford which is absolutely awesome. The 3 nights I was there for my interview were such a laugh - there are loads of wicked places to go out and its all pretty cheap! I chose Pembroke because it was very strong for my course, and it was fairly old and central. I also chose it because it is poor, and therefore there are very few public school kids - unlike Christ Church (directly opposite Pembroke) which is massive and far too grandeouse and full of snobby kids who I really don't like.
-
- Anyway, I have rambled for far too long, and I need to go and make some lunch. All the best, and thanks for you support/compliments/future help and good luck with the UCAS!

How a rather young person like you have come to study ancient greek to such an extent? And do you have any particular favourite works? --itpastorn 21:03, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
UPA

P.S. Thanks for your interest in this program but you should know that when you nominate a page, we have a spammer who will notify them. Also since you are a judge you should not nominate pages. What if you had to judge one? So please next time don't nominate a page if you'd like to be a judge!
- Heh, I'm sorry if I sounded as if I was reprimanding you it was not my intention. You are right, and I did not notice the fact that they too had nommed pages. Also you are 100% correct it is not in writing that judges can not nom pages. It was discussed on IRC and I guess I forgot to implement it into the page's structure. It will be by the next contest! Hello! Thank you for taking the time to vote for me in my recent request for adminship It ended successfully with a final score of (40/10/5). I value all of the contributions made during the process and I will take a special note of the constructive criticism regarding interacting with users in the user talk space. My edits
Yes, I see what you mean when you say I don't have many namespace edits. But lately, I have been participating in RfA's more often, and so on. I'll try to increase my edits, but I've only been here for a year, and I'm quite busy sometimes. Thanks for your reply and your curiousity. Эйрон Кинни (t) 00:12, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. It wasn't really that big a problem, it just resulted in the inadvertent creation of a couple of pages which then had to be tagged as speedyable themselves, creating unnecessary work, and it occured to me that perhaps I should mention it. As far as I can see, it works fine now -- Gurch 18:26, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

- Hey regarding the templates for the UPA, I've reverted your changes. I do not see the need for the templates to be messed around with. I have stated twice now that I do not think the templates are a problem. It was the actual UPA page, see my post to the talk page for more details. I'd appreciate it if you would leave the templates alone for now. If you would like to create the "nudge a judge" (cute name eh?) template please do so, i'm sure it will be used. but the other templates are fine for now! Cheers. KnowledgeOfSelf 19:10, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes I have heard "gives the feeling of impersonality" before, infact I think something like that is stated in two of my archives at least twice. I can see why someone would feel that way, though I disagree, PAGENAME, has always been there for speed and speed alone. If I felt inclined to type out 20 usernames, I would never use it. Alas maybe it just shows my laziness? I am always invariably doing something, so if I can earn myself an extra 3 minutes by using PAGENAME, I will. :D On a side note, "and seeing my actual name, which would give me the impression that someone took an extra second or two to work out what my actual name was." That would be fake, since it is hiding the fact that someone used PAGENAME. That to me is even worse! That's my take on it at least. Anyhoo, cheers! KnowledgeOfSelf 11:28, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up; I didn't know about "Includeonly" tags, so the code I had used "Noinclude" tags to hide a set of "nowiki" tags when transcluded to a page. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 20:57, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
User CSS
I was wondering if you could have a look at my monobook CSS file and tell me what you think of it. It's mainly a style thing, but I'd just like an idea of how it looks. It mainly displays the bar at the top in a kind of 'inverted caction' shape. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 21:57, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
