Talk:Hay, New South Wales
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've moved the following uncited passage from here to Tatura, Victoria because by 1943 the 'Dunera Boys' had been moved to Tatura:
- In 1943 Major Jullian Leyton arrived from England, on a mission. Leyton, a Jew like many of the 'Dunera Boys', managed to secure the release of many of them if they enlisted in the British or Australian Army. At the end of the war all of the Dunera Boys were released.
The following has been deleted: "When the 'Dunera Boys' arrived in Hay, they were classed by the authorities as enemy aliens, and were treated as prisoners of war, even though they were innocent." This is all true, except they weren't treated as POWs; in general they received tolerant, humane and lenient treatment at Hay (as they should have). This passage attempts to simplify something which really deserves more expansive treatment (but not in this article). A separate 'Dunera Boys' article would be warranted.
