Hayom Yom

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hayom Yom (Hebrew: היום יום, "Today is day ...") is a book written by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, compiled from the talks and letters of the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe, Joseph Isaac Schneersohn.

For each day of the Hebrew calendar, Hayom Yom includes an event that happened historically on that day, or otherwise general pieces of wisdom. Each day also allocates sections of study, known as Chitas (חתת), which is an acronym for Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya. Each days portion of Chumash is studied with the corresponding Rashi commentary.

Its name is taken from the words used to open the recital of the daily psalm in the Jewish morning prayer service, which on Sunday reads "Today is the first day, on which the Levites used to read in the Temple...".
