Haymarket, Edinburgh

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Haymarket is an area of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is situated in the west of the city and is a focal point for many main roads, notably Dalry Road (which leads to Gorgie Road and the M8 motorway to Glasgow), Corstorphine Road (leading to the M9, Stirling, and beyond) and Shandwick Place (leading to Princes Street, at the centre of Edinburgh).

Haymarket contains a number of popular pubs including the Haymarket Bar, The Caledonian and Ryries. There are also a number of cafes and restaurants in the area.

The Haymarket railway station is also here.

In the centre of the crossroads, is the war memorial for former players of Heart of Midlothian F.C.

There are plans to develop the former Morrison Street Goods Yard, a gap site which has overlooked Haymarket for many years. A shopping arcade, restaurants and offices are planned.
