Hawza

Hawza is an academy or school of traditional Islamic studies. Traditionally, it is a term used in Shi'a Islam to represent Islamic academies.

The term al-Hawza, or "the Hawza" usually refers to the institution in Najaf, Iraq. The English equivalent to hawza is seminary, however, the word "Hawza" is the term commonly used among Muslims.
