Hawthornden Castle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hawthornden Castle is a castle in Midlothian, Scotland.

The castle is a mile to the east of Roslin on the banks of the North Esk. There is a tradition that King Robert the Bruce once found shelter in the caves underneath it.

Hawthornden Castle is in private hands, since the 1970s it has been the propery of Drue Heinz, the widow H. J. Heinz II. She allows writers to use it as a retreat [1]. Recent restoration work has used reclaimed stone available from the now-demolished Calendonian railway station in Edinburgh [2].
