[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello Hatto, welcome to Wikipedia!

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, --JoanneB 18:56, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Japanese name order

Hello Hatto,

Why do you turn Japanese names around backwards?

Fg2 02:02, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm a Japanese, but I feel so strange that Japanese people are written in Japanese-style name in spite of English wikipedia. For example, writing down Utada Hikaru (Family name + First name) instead of Hikaru Utada is strange, I think. I'd extremely like to change all Japanese people's article to Western-style name. Hatto 02:23, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
Even in English I write Japanese names surname-first, given name-last. I would chuckle if the Japanese Wikipedia had an article named ピット・ブラッド! Anyhow, Wikipedia does not have a policy for modern Japanese name order (however, the Manual of Style specifies that for historical people we write the surname first, for example Tokugawa Ieyasu, not Ieyasu Tokugawa). So you can write modern names the way you like. (I'd be very happy if you'd let me write them the way I like, too.) Fg2 04:57, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Images

Hello! I'm afraid that I've had to remove the images from your User page; fair-use images can be used (within certain limits) in articles, but Wikipedia guidelines are that they should be kept off User pages (see Wikipedia:Fair use). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:55, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Masashi Tashiro revert

Hi, I see you do alot of work at Masashi Tashiro. You may have noticed that I (anon; different IP address, but still me) did a fairly extensive edit to the page recently, which you reverted. May I ask why? As it stands, the article is unorganized and, at times, written in moderately broken English; I feel as though my edits somewhat improved that situation. I'd like to see the the cleanup tag removed from that article eventually, so I hope that we can cooperate on this and make the page better. 4.248.32.23 02:16, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Owarai

Hi again Hatto. Why don't you go ahead and add your name to the participants of WikiProject Owarai! I see you're using the template already. If you list the articles that you have created, I can go through and copy-edit (proofread) them for English errors, and it would help to bring up the quality of owarai articles across Wiki. Thanks for your efforts!  freshgavinΓΛĿЌ  05:19, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi. About your edits on Jichokacho: I understand that you just want to add interesting information about each person, but sometimes I think it is just too much. Since this is the English Wikipedia, you must remember that 99.99% of the readers don't know anything about the subject. It's ok to say "Mr. Tanaka-san is married and has 3 children", but if you say something like "Mr. Tanaka was once given flowers by Ms. Satou and many people say that he is the best member of a famous group called Hidekazu which is popular in Fukui Prefecture", it is too hard to understand for most readers, and it's not interesting!
Right now, most of the geinin pages should be kept pretty small, and only the most important details included. Nobody will read an article if it is too long, especially if they don't understand anything!
The Japanese Wikipedia is still very different than the English Wikipedia. Japanese people seem to like to have many facts, but the story is not so important. In the English people, articles that have too many facts are not very good articles, so I would like to improve the quality of these articles. I hope you agree with me. ところで、お返事は日本語でもどうぞ。  freshgavinΓΛĿЌ  14:25, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
The {{Project Warai}} tag shouldn't really be used until after the article has been copyedited and organized. If you add the tag to every owarai article, many of which are still low quality, then it will make the WikiProject look like it is inactive. If you could just list the articles you create to the Improve section under tasks, I will copyedit them as soon as I can and move them to the Expandable stubs or Recently completed section. Or, if you like, you could just put the new articles into my sandbox, and I would edit them even faster, and then move it into the article namespace as soon as I finish copyediting.
I will create a small style guide/rules on the project page soon, and don't forget to watch the talk pages as well (especially the tasks talk page).  freshgavinΓΛĿЌ  02:15, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

"I think" is a not a valid reason for bloating an article. Please research your logic at the usual resources for making good Wikipedian pages.  freshgavinΓΛĿЌ  11:42, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Utada Hikaru

Why did you move the article without consensus on the issue?—Tokek 06:50, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

—Tokek 06:42, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I'm willing to help

Thanks for the welcome message. Just to make sure, were the articles you mentioned ones you wanted me to work on, or just examples? My Japanese is a bit rusty since it's been almost 5 years since I lived there. [edit] Masashi Tashiro article translation

Hello, thanks for your comment on my user talk page. I've put Masashi Tashiro under Pågående/planlagte oversettelser, which translates to "Ongoing/planned translations" in English, and also added a comment that states the translation was requested by you. I haven't had much time for translation lately, but will hopefully begin working on it sometime soon. But I'll wait until the cleanup tag has been removed from the English article, so that I can translate from a clean source.

I'm also considering translating the BOØWY article, because I've taken some interest in them, and want to spread knowledge about Japanese bands. The popularity of Japanese music in Norway is increasing together with the increased publication of manga and anime DVD releases. My primary goal at Wikipedia is to translate Japanese rock articles, but I also work on other Japan-related writings that are needing translations.

Aotake 04:12, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Japanese Celebrity Request

Hello Hatto. Sorry for the late late reply, I was too busy. Who is that Japanese Celebrity you'd like to have on Turkish Wikipedia? Ulashima 12:39, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Erika Sawajiri

Hi The first paragraph of this article says that Erika Sawajiri "belongs to xyz Promotions". AFAIK they don't have slavery in Japan do they? It may be a translation thing I guess but that should be worded differently in English. I would be more inclined to say "is represented by" or "works for" but I am not sure of the true arrangement. [edit] Tashiro.jpg

I note that you have recreated the deleted image Image:Tashiro.jpg. That image was deleted by myself as a copyright violation. You have stated that the image is a publicity photo which may be used under fair-use, but that does not, in fact, appear to be the case. You will see that in the publicity photo guidelines, with which you are, of course, familiar (having tagged a number of images with the template) that Note that the above only applies to photos that are explicitly distributed for publicity purposes, and does not apply to most photographs of celebrities. There is no evidence of the photo in question falling into such a category as it has simply been published on a website. I have relisted the image as a copyvio and it is now listed here, should you wish to discuss the issue, please do so there.

Also, please note that the recreation of content deleted according to wikipedias deletion policies is considered vandalism and may result in your account being blocked from editing wikipedia. Kcordina Talk 08:14, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your revert to the Masashi Tashiro article

You're treating the Masashi Tashiro article as it were your own personal article. This is not the first time you revert any changes made in that article. My changes were improvement to the article and you'll need a better explanation than "strange revert" to revert them. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the Wikipedia guidelines because I have no intention of linking every single one of them you're violating just because you are unco-operative. Mackan 14:38, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Mr. Mackan, free and liberal edits should be always guaranteed! Why do you remove it? Why does it have a problem? I don't understand. Don't you think freedom of expression shold be guaranteed? You are a cold and impolite person because you can't accept my and others' freedom and liberty. I hope free edit! (but it's not immoral and vandalistic writing) Please don't remove sentences you think "it's useless" at your own discretion. --Hatto 01:33, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Hatto, I'm glad you finally chose to respond. Read the Wikipedia guidelines, Wikipedia is not about freedom of expression and not about "free edit!", as I think previous editors have told you on numerous occasions. Also, refrain from personal attacks ("cold and impolite person"). And please respond in detail to my edits on the Masashi Tashiro talk page before you revert it again. One more revert and you're breaking the 3 revert rule, which doesn't seem like a smart move now that you are being meditated on.Mackan 01:44, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kumazawa Banzan

Hello Hatto. I translated the Kazuhide Uekusa article to Spanish, but be warned, as it might be deleted by other users (there is a contextualization tag, in other words, they don't know how this guy's biography is relevant!). Anyway, I wanted your help for something. There is an article about Kumazawa Banzan, which is a stub. If you can, please translate for me any information from the Japanese Wikipedia article in order to expand it. Anyone who reads this is also invited to help me if they want. —Dalobuca.

[edit] Image:Shibajun.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Shibajun.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 17:14, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Yu Yamada.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Yu Yamada.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Chowbok 05:14, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
