Hatteras is a community of approximately 1000 people on the Outer Banks island of Hatteras. It is located in Dare County in the U.S. state of North Carolina. NC 12 passes through the community linking it to Buxton and Ocracoke (via a ferry in Hatteras). It is famous for Cape Hatteras and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
