"Hate to Say I Told You So" was released on the Hives' second album, Veni Vidi Vicious, as the sixth track. It was released again on the greatest hits compilation, Your New Favourite Band. In March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 54 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks.

At a 2002 concert, the Foo Fighters performed a cover version of this for The Hives. The band even wore The Hives trademark black and white suits. This song was also parodied by Weird Al Yankovic in his Angry White Boy Polka. The Angry White Boy Polka was one of Weird Al's traditional polkas, where he did parts of popular songs in polka form. This version also included The Vines, who The Hives have drawn similar comparisons to.
