Hasegawa Settan

Hasegawa Settan (長谷川雪旦, ?-1843) is a painter who lived in the second half of the Edo period, born in Edo. His first name is Munehide (宗秀), his pseudonym is Gengakusai Itiyousai (巌岳斎・一陽庵). He was commonly called Gotō Uzaemon (後藤右衛門). His original occupation was a sculpture carpenter, and he created many works of ukiyo-e prints. the Edo Meisho Zukai is one of his masterpieces. He liked the haiku poem named Goraku (五楽); his Buddhist name is Hokkyō (法橋).
