Harvey W. Scott

Harvey Whitfield Scott was (February 1, 1838 - August 7, 1910) was an American pioneer and newspaper editor. Scott was born in the U.S. state of Illinois and migrated to Oregon with his family in 1852. He was the first alumnus of Pacific University in 1863 and was editor of the The Oregonian newspaper from 1866–1872. His editorials strongly supported the Union and the newly emerging Republican party during the Civil War. His sister, Abigail Scott Duniway, started a rival newspaper in support of women's suffrage. He died in Baltimore, Maryland.
