Hartranft is a neighborhood in the central part of North Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

The neighborhood suffers from high rates of violent crime.

Hartranft is home to The Badlands, a name coined by the Narcotics Division of the Philadelphia Police for the area between 4th and Cambria St through 9th and Indiana St. This section of the city is considered to be one of the most drug and crime infested areas in Philadelphia, as well as the United States, drawing unfavorable comparisons with the South Bronx of the 1970s. The Badlands are the setting for the 1995 book 3rd and Indiana, by The Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Steve Lopez.

As of the Census of 2000 Hartranft had 14,142 people and was 67.97% African-American, 23.83% Hispanic, and mixed races accounted for the remaining 7.09%.

43.17% of its people live below the poverty line.

The average housing structure was built in 1946. 43.12% of all properties were vacant as of 2000.
