Hartlepool Mail
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hartlepool Mail is a newspaper serving Hartlepool in County Durham and the surrounding area. It has a daily paid circulation of 19,852. [1]
The paper was founded in Hartlepool in 1877 and continued to be printed there until mid - August of 2006, when the printing staff were told they would be made redundant on 30 September. The newspaper's owners, Johnston Press, decided it would be financially better to move printing to Sunderland. This occurred with very little mention in its own paper, and a total block on information to any other media. Along with this, the first day of printing at Sunderland was heralded with a price hike and a reduction to one early morning print; making the newspaper's nickname "The Night Mail' a bit of a misnomer.
