Hartbeespoort, North West
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hartbeespoort is a small resort town in the North West Province of South Africa, situated on slopes of the Magaliesberg mountain and the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The name of the town means "pass of the hartbees" (a species of antelope) in Afrikaans.
The town mainly serves to service the holiday homes around the dam as its location close to Gauteng Province makes it popular with visitors from that province.
Some of the main tourist attractions in or around the town are:
- The Hartbeespoort Dam Snake Park
- The Hartbeespoort Dam Aquarium
- The Lesedi Cultural Village
- Hartbeespoortdam Cableway (The longest monocableway in Africa.)
Hartbeespoort is part of the Local Municipality of Madibeng, that also includes the nearby town of Brits.
