Harry Hershfield

Harry Hershfield (October 13, 1885 - December 15, 1974) was an American comic artist and humor writer.

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Hershfield began as a cartoonist when he was 14, drawing comics for the sports page of the Chicago Daily. His first published comic strip, Homeless Hector was about a dog. His major strips include Desperate Desmond (1910), Dauntless Durham of the U.S. (1912) and Abie the Agent (1914-1940).

On March 11, 1938, he was signed to head the story department of MGM's cartoon studio. Just after he brought Abie the Agent to an end in 1940, Hershfield became a well known radio personality on Stop Me If You've Heard This One and Can You Top This?

His books include Laugh Louder, Live Longer and Now I'll Tell One.
